Griffin wastes no time with new line of iPod accessories
We can't say we're surprised, but Griffin sure isn't messing around with this iPod accessory business. The company just announced a whole slew of cases for protecting your new iPod touch, classic or nano from the elements and your greasy fingerprints. Of course, no real surprises in the lineup, but we have to admit that "Reflect" case pictured above is a bit of a looker. Griffin should be shipping its new line, which ranges in price from $20 to $35, this October.

That's a case?
Alan Partridge @ Sep 8th 2007 8:06PM
I wish they didn't use that shiny silver surface on the back then you wouldn't really need a case...maybe that's exactly why they did.
John @ Sep 9th 2007 12:14PM
I have one of these shiny cases, and I only bought it because it was the ONLY shell case I could find at Best Buy (and because I'm notorious for destroying electronics through 'normal' use). It looks cool when you first buy it, but the only way to get it to work is to have the backlight on. I've gotten used to this now, but I used to take for granted just glancing at the screen to see how far along a song is or, if on shuffle, which song is playing. The other commenter is right; if it's a sunny day, you can forget even TRYING to see your screen.
It's cool at first, but it's way overpriced for a product that's very limiting.
Grant @ Sep 9th 2007 8:20PM
yeah, and it's great looking...
until you realize you need the backlight to view anything, and the reflective screen is extremely scrath prone.
i kept it in the same pocket as my moto Q, and the cell phone managed to scratch the case.
great idea/look, poor execution.
paul34 @ Sep 8th 2007 7:08PM
Interesting spin on an otherwise uninteresting product line (cases). What's so crazy is that it is so simple that its crazy no one else came up with the idea first!
I'm pretty sure all it involves is just lining the inside with metallic (reflective) tint film with a high reflective %.
Nestor @ Sep 8th 2007 7:11PM
ur tight it does look nice now that i look at it differently
Nestor @ Sep 8th 2007 7:11PM
*right
quomen @ Sep 9th 2007 9:34PM
Yeah, it looks like the same concept as the LG shine, looks pretty sweet. Here's a vid of the shine if you guys were wondering: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESRJHew2P4Q
I hope they also come out with a gunmetal grey version of the case.. I don't digg the silver too much and i'm planning to buy a black classic.
Endeavour @ Sep 8th 2007 9:43PM
Uh? It looks EXACTLY the same as the Sony NW-A3000

i love the i-phone and wish i could win one because i sure can't afford to buy one.
mdkathon @ Sep 8th 2007 11:38PM
Endavour,
Err, except that the iPod still looks a lot nicer then the Sony "asymmetrical buttonfest" A3000.
Matt Mages @ Sep 8th 2007 7:12PM
Best case ever! I have one for my 30GB Ipod and it is a little scratch sensitive, but not as much as the face and back of the 4th gen Ipod!!! It has never fallen off or even came loose and has plenty of room to attach accessories to the dock port! PLUS IT IS SUPER SEXY AND GETS TONS OF COMMENTS! GET THIS CASE!
Jonathan @ Sep 8th 2007 7:16PM
where can i get this for an ipod photo?
infectedmushroom @ Sep 8th 2007 10:45PM
It looks cool, but you can only actually see your ipod's screen when the brightness is ALL the way up. And that wastes hellaz battery power.
ryan @ Sep 9th 2007 12:25AM
This looks cool, but I'm not so sure how well it will go with the whole playing video thing.
Justin Horne @ Sep 8th 2007 7:18PM
Damn it. I want, but I don't know if I can wait a month... My 160 will be here on tuesday or Wednesday.
Suggestions?
caramelzappa @ Sep 8th 2007 7:37PM
Just be really careful and constantly keep it in the slipcover case. Only take it out to change songs, then slip it right back in. That's what I do and my 6 month old 30gb looks almost as perfect as it did when it shipped.
Patrick @ Sep 8th 2007 7:44PM
Do ipods still come with a slip case? Nothings mentioned in the box contents list. I know I got one when I got my 1st gen, 5th gen ipod but that during the early nano scratch days.
I really hope the touch comes with something other than just a wipe cloth. Was a slip case included in the iphone box anyone?
jman315 @ Sep 8th 2007 7:55PM
i just left the plastic film that usually comes on them on, and i have had my ipod for over a year in a case similiar to the slip and it looks brand new
itsme92 @ Sep 8th 2007 7:48PM
my 80gb iPod Classic didn't come with a slip case.
I don't care. The screen is glass and the body seems scratch-resistant enough. I never put my 4G in a case and it looked fine.
I can't stand cases, they take all of the character out of an iPod and add a lot of thickness.
Constable Odo @ Sep 8th 2007 9:22PM
What do you intend to fill it with? Music, movies, photos, data backups, what? Just curious since the typical user doesn't have that many audio files. 160 GB is a lot to fill on a PMP. I typically keep several seasons of current and classic TV shows on my 5G, but I'm probably in the minority.
Justin Horne @ Sep 8th 2007 10:05PM
Good idea baout leaving the plastic on, I think I will.
From unboxing pictures, it doesn't look like they come with any kind of case anymore. That said, I'll put it in my iPod Photo pouch too...
I've got just over 45 GB of music, and a collection of a few hindred movies, and about 13,000 photos. So, yeah, I should be able to pack it pretty tightly...:)
My 40gb Photo wil be delegated to offsite backup drive duty.
LukeA @ Sep 9th 2007 11:24AM
I recommend that you use it without a case and enjoy the product you paid for. Then brush the back when it looks ugly.
goochie @ Sep 8th 2007 7:37PM
that settles it! I am getting the new ipod nano!
The iPod Killer @ Sep 9th 2007 3:03PM
you know the case is for the classic too...
read the freaking article
paul34 @ Sep 8th 2007 7:35PM
Actually, I just realized this case would be the shiz for iPhone owners.
The only thing I'd change is to make it black... so that rather than being a grey mirror, its a black mirror. Nice!
huh? @ Sep 8th 2007 9:41PM
yo that ish is whack as hell. you need to touch the iphone. in the words of our national treasure MC Hammer: you can't touch this. [insert me trying to sing the music to the song]
Paul @ Sep 8th 2007 7:53PM
where's the screen on the ipod classic in this photo?
metal @ Sep 8th 2007 8:30PM
I think thats the point of the pictue. One is the ipod nano with the lcd on, the other is another ipod nano with the screen off.
Simon @ Sep 8th 2007 8:08PM
2 things:
1. Thats not a iPod Classic.
2. Youre an idiot.
Jaylati @ Sep 8th 2007 8:12PM
Right where it should be. If I'm not mistaken, you only see the screen when the iPod is turned on. When the screen is off, all you can see is the mirror tint.
Emceay @ Sep 8th 2007 10:03PM
Wow.. highest ranked comment didn't even answer a question, just insulted his intelligence.. I love the internet.
derX @ Sep 8th 2007 11:04PM
Not that I am a grammarian or anything,--I've probably made a ton of mistakes already and I will definitely make some during the course of this post-- but the poster that called Paul, an "idiot," reveals some idiocy on his part.
And Paul didn't make that big of a mistake, it just proves the product is effective: it makes the screen "disappear," as it was intended to.
-----
I'm curious here, you correctly used "an" before "idiot" but not before "iPod Classic," what's that about?
Also, did you take an apostrophe on a date and it spurned you, or do you have another reason why you have no use for one?
BTW, this is nothing personal, just c'mon guys, be nice.
Quix @ Sep 9th 2007 12:12AM
"Youre an idiot" - Simon.
Ah, the irony.
Simon @ Sep 9th 2007 8:18AM
Unfortunately for you, I am fully aware that my grammar was not correct in my comment. Not that it matters here, after all. In REAL life, my grammar is excellent. By the way, sorry Paul. You're not an idiot, but how could you think that's an iPod classic? Come on!
nintendodude @ Sep 8th 2007 8:04PM
Neat cases, but why would you want to cover that cool little screen on the nano?
Jeremy Banks @ Sep 8th 2007 8:19PM
It's see-through when the backlight is on.
james.cockshull @ Sep 8th 2007 8:13PM
they seem to be nice cases. I might get one
Mark @ Sep 8th 2007 11:35PM
The 'reflect' case is utter useless. It LOOKS neat, but try to use your iPod inside the case, outside on a sunny day...you can't see the screen.
mitch @ Sep 8th 2007 8:23PM
ipod?

it's amazing to me that griffin can't come out with some decent iPhone car accessories. i mean, where ARE they??? a uni-tasker car charger does me no good. how bout a cradle with that?!
maikel @ Sep 8th 2007 9:07PM
I am wondering if the Ipod Touch cases are compatible w/ the Iphone.
David W. @ Sep 8th 2007 9:28PM
No, they are different sizes, the touch is thinner
Samuel @ Sep 8th 2007 10:01PM
