iriver W10 WiFi media player with Skyhook positioning ready in November?
Man, we've been painstakingly following iriver's development of the W10 media player since it was first rumored back in July of 2006. Well before touchscreen DAPs were all the rage. One hands-on and several postings later, iRiver seems prepped to push their baby out in November to what will assuredly be an adoring public, in S.Korea anyway. What's the fuss? 3-inch, 480 x 272 TFT touchscreen interface; WiFi with Skyhook's GPS-like positioning and NAVTEQ maps; VoIP; FM tuner; AOL XM radio streaming; 2/4/8GB capacities with miniSD expansion; and support for MP3, WMA, OGG audio and MPEG-4, WMV9 video all riding atop an iriver tuned WinCE 5.0 OS. Thing is, those NAVTEQ maps and POIs are "only suitable for US" -- a hopeful sign that we'll see these Stateside in time for the holidays.

that is SOME respectable specs... argh if cowon doesn't announce/launch the x7 sooner i might seriously be tempted and lured away from being their cash cow...

I thought I remember reading when it was first show at CES that it will have a Microsd card slot and not a miniSD slot. Damn it.

i think you meant "wmv9". its strange it got mixed up in the story and in the tag.

Now we are talking. A nice sleek DAP with all the goodies AND WinCE? Thats some serious out of the box custom app capabilities there batman. With the existing WinCE/some WinMo compatible apps this thing could be pretty killer.

I am sick to death of GPS/Geo/Map based systems that are "only suitable for US".
Carl @ Sep 20th 2007 3:31AM
At least since it runs WinCE there are other options available (hopefully some of which will be bundled in other regions to replace NavTEQ) TomTom have WinCE compatible gps/mapping apps for most countries, as do several other companies.

No support for avi/xvid, no sale.
Al @ Sep 20th 2007 3:15PM
It is Windows CE you can install Divx or VLC player if you like on it to get the support.

Wow... I was looking forward to this device....like 3 months ago. Iriver waited too long to make a move, and will not do so well IMO. With the Iphone's recent price cut, the price of the 8 gb w10 will probably be at par with the 8 gb iphone. The Iphone is actually a phone that can make calls, have internet in most places with edge, and access gps, unlike the w10's voip and wifi internet navigation. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way an apple fanboy (infact, i hate ipods because of their lack of features for the price ppl pay for them. The w10 is a great player, but I just like to get the most bang for my buck, and seeing as the Iphone can now be hacked so you dont have to be stuck with att, the features you get with it are very good for the price you pay of dealing with itunes and 400 dollars. Lol let the flame begin xD!

How about you try to repeat that truthfully when you're trying to surf the internet on your 2g connection, attempting to see throught the fingerprints that accumulate (although that applies to the w10 as well) and realise that apple have just bricked your device because you tried to get ahead of the game and hacking it. Although you are nearly correct on one of your point, just a small change if i may...
"but I just like to get the most bang for my buck"
should read
"but i just like to get banged most for my buck"
it's a shame how you were so close yet so far.
I wouldn't call this flaming though ;)

I'm still waiting for the Q-5 that was supposed to be coming out 5 months ago.....
I love my old Cowon A2 (by IRiver) but I'm not holding my breath on this.
