iPod touch is essentially the same as iPhone, which means close to zero 3rd party software.

You will surely be able to _buy_ more accessories, but programs? Nah. There are already hundreds of programs ported to the Maemo. A month is pretty short time to get a few hundred programs working on the iPod Touch, assuming Apple ever even allows 3rd party programs on that platform.

Here's a few things I can do with my N700:

I can stream media to the Nokia from my PC (MediaStreamer);
I can pair up a bluetooth GPS receiver and use it as a GPS device (MaemoMapper);
I can play doom/dungeon master/bejewelled/civilisation/sudoku/etc. (for free - legally);
I can tune my guitar;
I can read PDFs/DVIs/postscript/tex (and a ton of eBook formats - FBReader and Evince);

And it'll do the things an iPod Touch will do:

I can listen to music & watch videos (Canola, MPlayer);
I can use it as a digital photo frame/album;
I can surf the web;

And that is just a very limited selection of what's available.

The concept was very sound & I loved getting a full VGA on such a small device.

I'll definitely take a look at any new releases.

As for aps: 770 had a ton. Everybody that had issues with 770 should definitely check out the N800, it's way more polished.

But... where's Wimax? In any case, I hope they return to a black casing. The silver front looks too much like a handheld game system and too little like a tiny computer (not that it detracts from the usage.) Even if it's just a revision for the WiMax support a clean black surface would suit it much better. i'd actually love to see a more gaming-friendly design. just throw the back and menu buttons on the right, give them two friends, arranged in gamepad configuration and make them app-programmable. handy shortcuts for all the apps, and hardware buttons for emulators. oh, and a better dpad would be nice.

more than anything the interface needs some cleaning up.
