Anyway, back on topic: the Gateway looks pretty good to my eyes. Back on topic...Aesthetically this definitely leaves Sony's recent attempt in the dust. I don't think it will revolutionize gateway and get them back on track, but it will go a long way to helping their image if they can follow it up with a few more offerings held to this standard.

not with the people who actually care about the OS. It could look EXACTLY like an iMac, but if the only option is booting up into Windows, me & millions of others wont even think twice about passing on it. Just the way it is. So guts-wise, apple has them. Then you add to that the fact that Gateway's put an inferior computer in a bigger box . . . and you lost me.

But it'll sell, and I'll tell you why. The average consumer will go into CompUSA and the salesman will show them both, but because of the long-standing "will-it-run-my-apps" stigma surrounding Apple (and people's general discomfort with switching operating systems), they'll pick the Gateway.

Um, hardware manufacturers can't even compete with that, because Apple chose it to run only on Macs.

As for this being a rip off of an iMac, well, all-in-one computers have been around well before the iMac ever even showed up. This is simply an evolutionary step showing that it's more than just the mac faithful who appreciate the simplicity and utilitarian nature of the all-in-one computer. If this thing sells even half way decently, expect more of this form factor from a variety of vendors.

The iMac still seems a better deal but it is nice that companies are starting to see that you can;t just throw generic beige or black boxes with a rats next of cables at the home market and have it stick.

The screen is too small (especially on the 1800 dollar model), and I'm not going near Vista but I am glad somebody is trying to up the ante on computer design other than Apple and Sony.]]>Sep 27th 2007 11:30AM
