HP's DigitalLife booth tour
HP had a lot of new product at DigitalLife, what with the refreshed iPaq line, brand new notebooks and those Blackbird behemoths. Even Voodoo got in on the action. Such happy times. But don't take our word for it, check out all the gallery action below.

Wow... the blackbird is really huge!
Dixonij @ Sep 27th 2007 10:38PM
Seriously... My first thought was "DAMN... that things a behemoth".

Look, you guys typically provide pretty good coverage, but you should seriously consider rotating those photos, my neck kinda hurts right now.
Rob @ Sep 27th 2007 10:09PM
Come on Engadget, just take the extra 2 seconds in takes to rotate these pictures. I love your site, but it's a bit bothersome to have to turn my head in all directions just to see a picture. Also, how about a little description as to what is being emphasized in the picture. Thank you.

Digitallife this year was a bit disappointing, use the code DLDDR07 to get in for free
Quix @ Sep 27th 2007 10:35PM
Is that a PC or a cheap plastic suitcase? Ugh. Tacky and cheesy looking.
Can only Apple design a decent looking computer tower? It can't really be *that* hard, can it?
John @ Sep 27th 2007 10:52PM
Antec can. My 900 is sweet. The p180 series are as well.
I'm not sure Apple really "designs" their cases. They're really plain (despite the simplistic beauty).
Josh @ Sep 27th 2007 10:52PM
It is actually a solid piece of metal that you are referring to as plastic. What people find 'good looking' and 'bad looking' is extremely subjective. I actually think that this case has a very unique style and enjoy its looks (despite that monstrous size - can't imagine every trying to move that behemoth).
purezerg @ Sep 27th 2007 11:45PM
actually apple is the one that looks plastic in comparison to blackbird. blackbird is actually made out of a single press sheet of metal. the same kind of machinery that is used to make cars.
Kawai @ Sep 28th 2007 4:30AM
This thing looks way better than the ugly cheese grater aka MacPro/PowerMac G5
LiQuiD_FuSioN @ Sep 28th 2007 9:06AM
I thought you guys normally hated on all stuff that is either "fat" or "bulky"?
Oh well. *whistles*
Naveen @ Sep 28th 2007 11:08AM
I think BB looks exactly like it is supposed to look - a *machine*. A big powerful gaming machine. Not a chic all-in-one desktop pc. And it looks nice to me.
On the other hand, why doesn't anyone talk about the visual eye-candy that their voodoo laptop is?!?!
peternj @ Sep 28th 2007 12:07AM
The Blackbird is awesome. I'm counting the days as it's clear Apple will not upgrade their towers and frankly HP's new direction with the BB is much more user friendly.
I don't understand why Apple geeks cannot see how feeble Apple's designs look these days.
The iPhone might be the last hurrah.
totencough @ Sep 28th 2007 5:25AM
You kidding me?! Until Johnny Ives turns in his two weeks there will be design nirvana with Apple products. Unfortunately, they are kind of seeming like a broken record when they get really good designs (iPod Touch is almost identical to iPhone, Mac Pro almost identical to G5, etc). For Apple, it is about design simplicity, and user friendly results. Sure, they don't hit all the right notes, but you can't say they don't play a damn good chorus line.
That said, there is room for improvement on features, and certainly other roads to travel in terms of designs. I'm really glad HP is taking this direction and is willing to stretch for it. I love the Blackbird's design in oh so many ways: the trapezoid shape, the "hover" concept that is not only visually appealing but practical as well. I can't wait to see what comes next.
Come on Blackbird laptop!
bluzytrix @ Sep 28th 2007 2:36AM
Honestly Engadget, did you send a 3 year old to cover this event? What is very disturbing is the lack of quality, professionalism and attention to detail displayed in covering this event that shows how biased you guys are toward certain companies. I would never accept the low quality of these types of photos and hope that in the future you send someone who can take some real pictures and have as much enthusiasm about taking them as if they were at some Apple convention.
Chino B @ Sep 28th 2007 6:10AM
blackbird look sick and voodoo laptop
Neon Jebus @ Sep 28th 2007 8:30AM
That thing is bigger than my old dorm fridge. And it plays Doom.
alex @ Sep 28th 2007 10:08AM
And it WON'T blend.
Fastmb @ Sep 28th 2007 5:18PM
Whats the game on the the screen?
Anthony Huff @ Sep 28th 2007 6:57PM
At first i thought it was one of those old school heaters. Then I realized this new school heater is packed w/ voodoo tech, which makes it awesome.
sweet a @ Sep 29th 2007 5:17PM
what game is the handsom dark haired feller with glasses playing?
