Just as expected, Hitachi is showing off its
sub-inch thick 32-inch LCD HDTV samples at CEATEC today. Unfortunately we were able to glean practically no information about the TVs from the Hitachi reps present, but we're already having a hard time deciding whether 32-inches at 18.8mm thick is better than
11-inches at 3mm. What's a display nerd to do?

ill take the 3mm thick :P

And I'll take the 18.8mm. 32-inches vs 11-inches, not much of a choice IMO.

In related news...Can we just use the motherfuckin metric system already?!?! I'm tired of having to go up to google every few minutes to do a conversion because one site has it inches an the other in mm...geezus!

I am not a fan of the base... but the screen is pretty awesome. Looks like the lighting of the screen is a little uneven, though. Is it just me?
imacmatt09 @ Oct 1st 2007 11:23PM
Too bad you cant adjust the tilt...
Chris @ Oct 1st 2007 11:38PM
Yeah the screen is uneven common about LCDs, the sides are brighter than the middle and the overall contrast looks like it's lacking...

Thats pretty darn sexy if you ask me :) I'll take two
But I take it all the electronics are in the base? -- thats a shame - this would look absolutely gorgeous on a wall :)
mushrooshi @ Oct 2nd 2007 12:19AM
So Kawaii thin! (^.^)V
BiG @ Oct 2nd 2007 3:48AM
I'd take 32" at 18.8mm...most picture frames aren't much thinner. But, does it have one million to one contrast ratio?!
Montusama @ Oct 2nd 2007 3:53AM
3mm....vs. not even an inch....
I'll take the incher.....I prefer a real screen to look at...

I would really want a 2mm Samsung, come on Sammy!!! Start your engine of "the World's XXXXXest......."
Hey Apple, maybe it is time to buy out Sony's OLED business to become one of your own.
Lenoire @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:50AM
18.8mm/32" = 0.588 mm/inch
3.0mm/11" = 0.273 mm/inch
Therefore, buy the Sony :p
Any pricing info on the Hitachi? At £77.00 per inch the Sony sounds expensive!!!
kmk @ Oct 2nd 2007 11:31AM
You could slice cheese with that thing!
Skorn @ Oct 3rd 2007 6:39PM
Think what a Wiimote could do to that!

When is Hitachi going to offer 37" LCDs that meet ENERGY STAR standards. They weren't listed in the LCD TV power consumption comparison on www.getwithgreen.com.
