I never sent it in. Why? Because the recall was about the same time of year as this (late Oct. actually) and they stated the turnaround time would be 8-12 weeks.

Why would I want to be without my camera over the holidays? My choices were a)Send in the camera for repair and buy a second to have over the holiday season, or b)Deal with the camera that still took decent pictures except when it didn't (requiring a solid smack).

I went with choice A, but have since replaced the camera with a different brand.

Larvamoose

Comments on

I guess you can push it too far trying to save money on body parts.

Wwhat

Comments on

i handed my a70 in when it broke after 3 years and I found out it had been recalled. they didn't make the part any more so I got a free a630, awsome yes i know

Daniel McNally

Comments on

Canon usually makes solid, high quality cameras. Talked to Canon directly this morning after perusing their website, testing my camera, and finding that indeed, my camera is effected.

The response was pretty good; could be a lot worse. I will be issued a pre-paid mailing label to send the camera to the nearest Canon service center; but that they won't start doing these repairs until Oct. 22. Kinda cramps my use of the camera for the next 2-x weeks, but at least Canon is taking action to preserve their consumer base.

rp harvey

Comments on

After all the publicity authorized Canon dealers continue to sell the A-650 cameras on the recall list that have not been repaired by Canon!
