Why would I want to be without my camera over the holidays? My choices were a)Send in the camera for repair and buy a second to have over the holiday season, or b)Deal with the camera that still took decent pictures except when it didn't (requiring a solid smack).

The response was pretty good; could be a lot worse. I will be issued a pre-paid mailing label to send the camera to the nearest Canon service center; but that they won't start doing these repairs until Oct. 22. Kinda cramps my use of the camera for the next 2-x weeks, but at least Canon is taking action to preserve their consumer base.
