The 24-carat gold MacBook Pro, with diamond studded Apple logo
For Apple owners, there's one consistent event that can make their shiny new device seem dull and boring: the replacement of their specific device with a new one from Apple. Now there's a new Apple gadget on the block that literally makes every other Apple device look dull. A company called Computer Choppers has put together a Gold-plated MacBook Pro, with an appropriately diamond studded Apple logo. Should go nicely with your gold plated ... HP ... LaserJet. Yeah. Get ready to sell your house.

i have spray paint...
Josh @ Oct 6th 2007 5:18PM
No diamonds though?
michas_pi @ Oct 6th 2007 7:41PM
Cubic zirconia will do just fine.
drumz87 @ Oct 7th 2007 3:41AM
I too have gold spray paint. My sister probably has one of those bedazzler things. Put both of them together and I might have something more creative than this and oh yea for $74,998 cheaper. All jokes aside though, this is a huge waste of money. I think the company should provide security detail for you, where ever you go and use this laptop, otherwise its likely going to get stolen in a heartbeat. Oh wait thats right I forgot, the people buying this will have that anyways. I would rather spend a bunch of money on the body case for my Powerbook, that I'm going to be making out of carbon fiber and kevlar reinforcements, than on this thing. It'll be lighter, less likely to get stolen, very resistent to damage, and will actually look nicer than this gold monster and with the added benefit of not blinding me, with glare, if I decide to use it outside.
john @ Oct 6th 2007 5:16PM
That's hot
Ireland @ Oct 6th 2007 6:07PM
Not so hot when Apple brings out new MacBook Pros in the next couple of months. That's the problem with being rich and stupid - you only have a couple of months to show it off.
Xavier Gill @ Oct 6th 2007 6:08PM
It's every Engadget editor's wet dream
JP @ Oct 6th 2007 9:38PM
Quite right, they do get hot.
Especially with pointless extra layers of gold and diamonds.
Andrew Stone @ Oct 6th 2007 10:15PM
All i could think about when i saw this:

"I love goooooooooold."
Brad @ Oct 7th 2007 7:14PM
Well, gold is a pretty good heat conductor - perhaps it will actually help keep it cooler?
Jons @ Oct 6th 2007 5:18PM
Certainly requires a CheckBook Pro
B @ Oct 6th 2007 5:18PM
And you thought iPods marked you for muggings...
matt byrne @ Oct 6th 2007 5:23PM
Ghastly.
shaliron @ Oct 7th 2007 12:06AM
The worst part is that there's actually a market for this monstrosity - else they wouldn't make it!
CraigJ @ Oct 6th 2007 5:23PM
Fugly. I do wish Apple would make some out of titanium again, though
Jonathan-DBOSS @ Oct 6th 2007 5:26PM
That Apple's delicious!
Crayola @ Oct 6th 2007 5:31PM
Quite pointless really, Mac or PC, by far Sony does the coolest looking laptop, and it doesn't need bling for bling sake.

nowhere @ Oct 6th 2007 6:11PM
That thing is pretty ugly. The placement of the keyboard is pretty horrible as well.
Mr. Vage @ Oct 6th 2007 8:27PM
It can't be good, it's a Sony product. They sell their PCs with rootkits preinstalled.
Will @ Oct 6th 2007 5:34PM
Wow. They must think Apple users are really vain.
Oh. Wait.
FireFox @ Oct 6th 2007 5:37PM
Looks beautiful. However I'd put on the logo in silver.
suv4x4 @ Oct 6th 2007 5:38PM
"with an appropriately diamond studded Apple logo"
Really? The diamonds are easily the ugliest part of this mod. It would look tons better with golden Apple Logo and silver chassis, or golden chassis and silver Apple Logo.
But naaah, let's put diamonds in there and make it 100x more expensive, and uglier.
Do you want to see a luxury laptop done right? Look no further than Lenovo's Thinkpad Reserve Edition:
http://www.thinkpadreserve.com/
http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/08/lenovos-thinkpad-reserve-edition/
Apart from looking really great and classy (I want one!), it's also very practical, not sky high expensive, and comes with amazing direct tech support deal.
And it has no logo made of diamonds (thank god).
gcubed @ Oct 18th 2007 5:25PM
Nice, but will it blend?
John @ Oct 6th 2007 5:44PM
those diamonds won't
Andrew H. @ Oct 6th 2007 6:23PM
actually...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pnonj_84Ju4
Z @ Oct 6th 2007 7:08PM
Those are not diamonds Andrew...
michas_pi @ Oct 6th 2007 7:43PM
More importantly, will it play Doom while blending?
GoreTEX @ Oct 6th 2007 5:44PM
Perfect for the Apple Elitists out there. Arent the pros made out of plastic... how did they get the gold to stick.. or is it gold leaf?
Sir.Byrd @ Oct 6th 2007 5:52PM
I think they are made out of aluminum.
McGinley @ Oct 6th 2007 5:47PM
Finally,a PC with a good re-sell value.
Matt @ Oct 6th 2007 5:53PM
Finally, a decent laptop for C-3PO.
pikkoz @ Oct 6th 2007 5:55PM
Am i the only person that think that is stupid to coniugate the fast devaluating electronic devices that meant to be used, with expensive jevelery materials that mantain his value and meant to be displayed?
Even if i'm rich and eccentric enough to buy that, where i use that laptop? in a safe? gold plated laptop, swarowski usb memory sheesh.
suv4x4 @ Oct 6th 2007 6:47PM
You're not alone. But the people who buy this sort of crap don't like to bother with petty stuff like logic.
NG @ Oct 6th 2007 5:55PM
I think you can't put gold and silver together, it will turn both metal black or something..
You will have to use white gold instead
Bloobie @ Oct 6th 2007 7:25PM
Doubt that, since gold is quite non-reactive. Sulphur will turn silver black, however.
Neebs @ Oct 6th 2007 6:01PM
I bet it costs $800 more than other solid gold laptops...
Ignacio @ Oct 6th 2007 6:08PM
Johnny 5 would love this ;-)
Mostly Lisa @ Oct 6th 2007 6:25PM
all i gotta ask is what's on the inside? who cares what it looks like if it ain't gonna crunch your FCP vids uber fast.
Charles Han @ Oct 6th 2007 6:10PM
man if i had that much extra money left over to put gold plates in, I would just totally max out the specs on macbook pro, and just get a desktop. Why go for looks when u can invest it for raw power?
esat dedezade @ Oct 6th 2007 6:14PM
What in the name of sanity is wrong with the world!!!! Just skimming the front pages of engadget just now I come across this totally unnecessary diamond studded profanity, only to scroll down and see an equally pointless $75,000 dollar talking swami?
Just think, for the price of this gleaming hunk of crap and that talking head, hundreds, if not thousands of people who have nothing to eat or drink and are literally dying could be saved.
I'm not saying that you can buy nice things if your rich, its your right to if you have worked hard for your money.
What I'm saying is paying obscene amounts of money for items that are so unnecessary, especially the laptop with no extra features is just so wrong its ridiculous.
Society is going down the toilet... a solid platinum toilet with a solid diamond handle, flushed with the melting water of the polar ice caps.
esat dedezade @ Oct 6th 2007 6:20PM
"I'm not saying that you can buy nice things if your rich, its your right to if you have worked hard for your money."
woops, i meant 'I'm not saying you can'T buy nice things when your rich....'
GoreTEX @ Oct 6th 2007 6:26PM
Knowing the way USA works, this will be bought with credit owing to our future Chinese masters.
suv4x4 @ Oct 6th 2007 6:51PM
"Society is going down the toilet... a solid platinum toilet with a solid diamond handle, flushed with the melting water of the polar ice caps."
Hahaha, loved this. Thank you, very appropriate indeed :)
Well here's what: every now and then someone comes up with insane stuff like this 75k Swami. It doesn't mean it's the norm, and if they try to sell it for 75k, doesn't mean someone bought it, or will ever buy it.
Same for this nonsense of a gold plated iMac. People will do weird stuff whether they're poor or rich, but.. just the rich ones get to do the flashy weird stuff.
Megan @ Feb 19th 2008 9:04PM
How much does it cost?
Argot @ Oct 6th 2007 6:26PM
That's the ugliest thing I've ever seen!
Brett Jensen @ Oct 6th 2007 6:34PM
I want one.....
aaronbareford @ Oct 6th 2007 6:36PM
Thats quite cool... but i would never be seen dead with one *barfs*
peshue @ Oct 6th 2007 6:37PM
I wish I could be more eloquent but I can't think of a better word to describe this thing thing than stupid.
holycow @ Oct 6th 2007 6:45PM
Donald Trump probably has one already
Nick Catalano @ Oct 6th 2007 6:48PM
GOld plating stuff isn't exactly hard, nor insanely expensive... I wonder how they did it on Aluminum though...
It is the diamonds that make up the real cost there.
