They are toy cameras, sure, but they aren't technically produced by "lomo". The effect is different. Lomo photos typically are 35mm and are usually further enhanced by being cross-processed in development, whereas holgas shoot a blurry medium (square) format often full of interesting light leaks, primarily because of the plastic lens and shoddy body design -- not by design, just because they were designed to be extremely cheap. Holgas are really defective -- they have an aperture lever that is supposed to be switched between f/8 and f/11, but doesn't actually work. That's part of the niceness, I guess.

Incidentally, the lomography people are not related to the people who make the Holga AFAIK, and are well known for charging large markup amounts. As a result, it's hard to get an LC-A on ebay for a fair amount either.

The Holga again, is around $25 and your local (non-big-chain) camera store should have some. Bands make a large portion of their money from 1. concerts and 2. merchandise. they DO NOT make vary much for record sales. In fact the singer of a band can have gold record and barly pull in thirty grand. this thing wont inspier photographers (unless like me you are a fan of the white stripes) but as far as merch. is concerened one of the coolest things I've seen a band do in a vary long time.

RK3^...

Comments on White Stripes get their own Lomography cameras

Indeed it's a cool idea. But they have packeged a few nice and a few unique accessories. to add to the value and it is limited. But I do think the band is thinking outside the box and I do think it will inspier creativity in a little know subculture of photography. It's a new world in music these days the old model is dieing and bands are gonna have to try new things to get their name out there. As a photographer and an audio engineer I love when other artists try to inspier other to unlock their creativity. Like many bands these days release their studio tracks for the world to remix, Tv shows are now releasing scenes for woodby video editors to mash up and reedit. As funding for the arts is declining in the schools it is important to inspier and unlock creativity wharever and whenever possible. If some kid gets his parents to buy him this and he sees what a holga does it could unlock a whole new world for him or her outside of the school curriculum of sports and subpar vocabulary. ( not that I picked up vary good spelling skills but then I just spell creativly). Your right for someone in the know they could just go get a holga for a whole lot cheaper and do as you say be creative with their own paint job. But for some one who has never heard of a holga this could be the start of something. And that is why I think that cross marketing such as this is one of the moast powerful ways to market. It itroduces the crowd of one group to merchandise of the other group. Like links on the internet this is the future of marketing.

RK3^...

Comments on White Stripes get their own Lomography cameras

A Jack White Holga camera? In the same way that they introduced many of their fans to the world of vinyl by exclusively releasing songs onto vinyl format.
