Keep the light green and your getting maximum efficiency.

Example braking too hard is a nono since it wastes the potential energy you spent fuel attaining and could now be converting into kinetic energy (coasting) etc..

As long as you can turn it on and off this is a GREAT idea for a GPS since the nature of what it does GIVES you a lot of the needed information anyway ie acceleration and speed.

Its amazing how much mpg you can gain with throttle control and intelligent driving (no need to go crazy hypermiling just small changes in your accelerator habits can have a big impact on your MPG)

Example when you see a light coming up "let off the gas" and let the car start slowing down. Your now using less fuel and it might change again before you even get to it negating the wasteful need to stop all together. Not enough to annoy other drivers JUST enough to smooth out the fuel curve a little.

Know when the downhill is coming up and "let off" the gas a wee early and let the hill give you a gravity boost etc.. Speed up slowly before reaching an uphill and convert some of that potential energy into kinetic energy to help you climb and crest the hill more efficiently. (accelerating slowly on level ground will take less fuel than accelerating UP the hill harder)

EVENTUALLY you will do these things (just slight does not have to be perfect or even noticeable to other drivers or you) and it will just be second nature eventually. You will suddenly realize you filling up a wee less often and spend a little less green on oil :-)

Just TINY changes in your driving habits that after a few weeks you will not even notice any longer can result in HUNDREDS of dollars in savings over the period of a year especially if your a heavy driver (lots of miles)

Thats cool.

Chris Taylor

Comments on Sanyo intros the NV-HD880FT "Gorilla" GPS navigator

Something else I would love to see. If the GPS notices you stopping at a gas station I would love it if a Notification "popped up" and said Hey did you just get gas? I answer yes or no if yes It asks How many gallons and how many miles since your last fill up? I enter those on an on screen touch pad and when its done it chimes a reminder Hey don't forget to reset your trip meter!! (sure you can use the GPS for that but its less accurate since it gains no miles when its off or not receiving a signal :-)

Features like this are ones that I WOULD PAY to have in a GPS that why I want to see a computer based large touch screen GPS thats OPEN PLATFORM so people can WRITE cool software like this for them.

Chris Taylor
