Panasonic is aiming for both ends of the home
projector market with its new PT-A series, with the silver PT-AX200 targeted at gamers and the black 1080p PT-AE2000E aimed at the tony "pricing undisclosed" crowd. The AX200 (pictured) features 720p resolution, a "Game Mode" that cuts response time down to 5ms and pumps up color saturation, 2,000 lumens of brightness, and a 2x optical zoom for €1499 ($2118). The somewhat less-friendly AE2000E sports 1500 lumens of shine behind its 1080p resolution, with a 16,000:1 contrast ratio, three HDMI inputs, and several "pro-level" installation and configuration features, like a 100-percent vertical lens shift for ceiling-mount applications, a splitscreen adjustment mode and a waveform monitor. Both models should be hitting Europe soon, no word if we'll see them over here anytime soon. Check a shot of the AE2000E after the break.

Me thinks they mean the PT-AE2000E, the 200 was released 4 years ago.
You are right about that, it is the TH-AE2000. A "0" is missing.

Does making ugly plastic case cost less than a cute one?? Cause panasonic seems to think so...
Not to mention the picture that was used is wrong as well. But, being that they are not true gadgeteers what should one expect from their (low) level of reporting?
Very little: in fact, Engadget is gaining the reputation of generally inaccurate reporting more and more. But I guess they are comfortable with that.
Engadget does two things:
Provide coverage of new tech that is wide, not deep;
Serve it up with a bit of cliched "attitude" with inaccurate details and arbitrary views (eg aesthetics and relevance).
Unfortunately, I haven't found anything better, though I haven't really looked. It's easy to imagine a better site, though it would require some resources. Just having the Engadget editors be quiet when they don't know what they're talking about would help a lot though.
2700 Euro for the 200E. See http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a278845.html
Whoops! That's the 2000E. Sorry!
Whats a "tony crowd"?
They're ggggggreat!
You guys really need some help in understanding the projector market and getting information from the manufacturers.
This guy will do it for you:
www.projectorcentral.com
By the way, he has already reviewed one or both of these models, and panasonic is already selling the ax200 stateside through www.visualapex.com That information is of course also available at the above link from the guy who reviews these things.
Here it is on a silver platter, now please upgrade your projector reporting.
I have the prior version of this (PT-AX-100U), and am extremely pleased with it, for gaming and otherwise.
i just convinced my friend to get an ax200 a few weeks ago.. he's been loving it since. maybe I should start a gadget blog?
