PS3 firmware 1.94 to bring rumble support
Everyone's favorite last-gen feature is just about ready to make its grand appearance on the PS3: although firmware 1.94 hasn't been officially released yet, ShackNews is reporting that copies of Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction contain an updater to Sony's latest code, and it provides support for the rumblin' DualShock3 controller due out in Japan in November and in the US sometime this spring. No word on what other updates 1.94 provides, but it's not like anything else is even close to as important.

I should have waited to get my extra Sixaxis. I normally turn off rumble in games as it is. With the new version, I'm sure the old ones will be a dime a dozen.
Jman196 @ Oct 24th 2007 11:55AM
Woah you mean to tell me that this so last-gen feature is now coming to the ps3! But didn't they ridicule the idea saying "who needs rumble?"
Jon Graft @ Oct 24th 2007 4:08PM
I think I recall Microsoft saying "Who needs HDMI? It's a waste of money..." Hmmm....:-) I would say HDMI > Rumble ANY DAY!
Jotenks @ Oct 24th 2007 4:55PM
No Jon, HDMI still sucks ass as a standard. It's like they tried to make the unstable connection type possible. They can't even finalize the damn format! I'd rather have component cables and an optical audio output anyday. That said, I'd rather have rumble on my GAME console over high definition output anyday.

They cry when it's not there. They cry when they put it back in. They cry cause it's too expensive. They cry because "it has no games". They cry because it has Bluray. They cry because it's hard to develop for. They cry because it's built like a tank and doesn't RROD.
Jesus F. Christ....quite your whining already.

"Let's get ready to rumble!"
engajeto @ Oct 24th 2007 12:28PM
Hey now, this isn't that bad.
Though imo the DS2 controller was annoying if the rumble feature was implemented poorly(massager anyone?), I'm completely for it solely because mgs4 uses it >>.

now I can finally stop playing Starfox 64. last gen? more like ancient gen.
noize @ Oct 24th 2007 12:11PM
YEa frank i agree with everything u said.
These ppl think they have some sort of rule over the general census when it comes to brand specific products that have competition. Pleasem Sony are not going to listen to a geek who sits in the dark all day just because hes a iPod/xBox/Linux fanboy.
Plz, get a life.

Clap....Clap....Clap ... And the last horse crosses the finishline...
Seriously how is this in the least bit impressive?
mragrotime1 @ Oct 24th 2007 12:33PM
I'm honestly am not that big of a fan of rumble in controllers, but that is most likely my oppinion due to the excessive over usage of rumble in the past generations. On xbox 1 driving games would leave your hands shaking after a few laps like you have parkinson's desiese. Rumble used sparingly can be cool. Just my 2 cents.

So, if i get it right, your blog is like a copy of engadget/gizmodo without the pics, the people and 2 days late in the news.... Stop hoping to receive free stuff to do review cause your blog is really booooriiiiing.

For those bitching about rumble being annoying, either disable it or buy a SIXAXIS. I think having the option available is great, and in MOST games this feature further immerses the player. I would have really liked to see what their "next-gen" version of rumble was going to be, with more motors, but then I'm guessing it would have had to lose wireless functionality due to power requirements. Just these two motors limits the controller's recharge cycle from 30 hours to 15... You win some, you lose some.

Rumble is great. I had the logitech wireless controller for so long its all i remember as far as PS2 is concerned. It was great and it seemed to last a long time on two AA's. Maybe Sony should ask them how they implemented it for the PS2?
But please, the reason people have been so loyal to xbox360 eveb through the RRODs is because of games like gears of war were better than resistance (lets leave Halo out of this which is the best online experience most people have had for a game). Not because we could feel ourselves getting killed. You weren't excited for GTA-san andreas because you could feel the hooker giving you health, you were excited because you could kill her and take your money back. Its all about the games. Sony should have stuck with their original business plans and not come up with excuses.
Ty @ Oct 24th 2007 1:44PM
This makes me happy. I plan on buying my ps3 this holiday season and the fact that I won't have to deal with rumble at all is a bonus.
teebo @ Oct 24th 2007 2:48PM
This will be wonderful. Now rumble support will work for all those PS2 games you can't play on the 40 gig model. *slaps forehead*

"No word on what other updates 1.94 provides, but it's not like anything else is even close to as important."
Hell, yes there is one f....ing feature much more important! Support for AVI files encoded with mpeg-4 (DivX, XviD etc.) and MOV's. Those hypocrits from Sony should realize that this codec isn't ony tools of movie piracy but important standard of video material in whole Web!

what about Home? o_O O_o

Yeah this update came with my R&C F: ToD copy. Was nice to finally have a super fast update off a disc rather than wait for a massive download...
