On the server side AMD still has the upper hand, although just barely with 2 sockets but can easily outperform Intel in memory bandwidth on 4 socket servers. So for pricing sakes let's hope the $$$ they make in the server market will be enough to get them through for awhile. Unless Phenom is something that we haven't seen before then no one will really care. This is for a few reason 1 AMD can't build enough chips to flood the market like Intel. The silver lining to this whole this is if AMD wins its care against INTEL then they will have to pay out the nose to AMD. The only issue is even with all the money AMD could win it would still take a few years to build out new Fab plants. So Intel still has a leg up on AMD...

AB

Comments on AMD to launch Phenom on November 19th?

True, Nvidia probably wont be getting into the CPU business but they are now competing with Intel in the integrated graphics arena with some pretty solid chips.

manny

Comments on AMD to launch Phenom on November 19th?

Phenom should bring amd about level with intel, will be interesting to see what happens then

Jack

Comments on AMD to launch Phenom on November 19th?

Let us hope the Phenom is like the Athlon 64 or X2 {when they first came out, better than P4 and P4D}.
Without AMD would their even be 64-bit? {64-bit is still just in its infancy}

with competition we all pay less.

CosterMonger

Comments on AMD to launch Phenom on November 19th?

I find it very humorous that people are already saying that its proven the phenom isnt better than Core2.

First off the only benchmarks we have currently are for the Opteron quad cores.
