Some kids are shit-heads, regardless of how they were raised. It's been quite a while since I was a teenager, but I clearly remember perfectly respectable family friends whose military-school-fodder kids I wasn't allowed to hang out with. Many factors often contribute to the deliquency of a malcontent.

I make no assumptions about the kid's upbringing (though reading all three pages of the actual article does paint a clearer picture). I only applaud the gumption of this mother to take a stand against this nit-wit. She followed through on the punishment of her own flesh and blood, who had resorted sending her "I love you" letters from prison.
