Second steampunk laptop wants to be clockwork
You like Steampunk, do ya? Well, looks like we've got another laptop iteration for you today, this time entitled "A Clockwork Laptop." Yeah, it's got a bunch of brass and copper fittings -- plus some gothic looking legs -- and an overall retro fantasy style that some people like and others may hate. Make sure to check out the hundred or so cogs inside a glass screen on the back of the real screen. To turn it on you even have to turn a rusty key embedded inside the thumb rest: although you'll still be booting into an anachronistic Ubuntu install if you do so. Check out s'more pics at the link below, and know that you'll never be arsed to make anything even half as impressive. Also, anyone getting a strange craving for a glass of milk after seeing this?

Do you ring up the operator to connect to the internet?
Orson Wells called, he said he wants his laptop back.
You mean H.G. Wells.
Haha Orson Wells, oops.
Hey, (s)he was close. They both had something to do with "War of the Worlds." Although it's "Orson Welles," not "Wells."
I love it. Fabulous work. Wish I had half the patience or skill a work of art like that would take.
Everyone will be like: "Gosh! Did you steal Babbages Portable Analytical Machine?!"
Of course! And you don't know how long it took to modify ubuntu!
Don't you mean adding a babbage backend to LLVM or GCC?
Ubuntu would have to be ported, not modified just to run...
Actually, you do have to modify the kernel, but that's just for performance.
You don't know how much clicking noise is made by the MMU alone; it's ridiculous.
And since brass melts at a higher temp than silicon, the thing really /can/ sterilize you, so watch yourself.
It's mighty short on punk if you ask me. I think it's more of a Ducan Phife style.
Anyone who doesn't like this can take the Alienware machines they're typing their hate messages on and go to hell.
(Okay, perhaps this is a tad preemptive.)
I'm not a fan of alienware, as I think that the best part about PCs is that you can build your own, but I am against anything that involves the word "punk" on general principle. It still looks awesome though.
Aye. Building your own is key.
The day you can truly do that with a laptop, I intend to.
I know what I want. No one can give it to me but me.
Love it, just hope they remember to take the key out before closing the lid. I wonder how much it weighs?

Time for a new host...
The 1880's called. They want their OLPC back.
(Referring to the wind-up part)
lul.
It's still sexy though, how much do(es) these/this cost?
It's a one of a kind, hand made mod. You can't buy these.
If it is anything similar to Jake von Slat's Steampunk Workshop, the laptop isnt actually for sale, but for personal enjoyment while building it. On that note, however, a bronze keyboard created in this style was put on ebay for a starting price of 1200 dollars. And that was a keyboard...so I would imagine this laptop would be pretty astronomical.
By the way, steampunk is a widely used name for the practice of converting modern items to look like victorian/early industrial revolution devices.
Fantastic design. If I had the cash I'd definitely pay someone to make me something like this. lol.
I Kinda get the glass of milk thing too.
most of it is mirrored here http://www.duggmirror.com/mods/Steampunk_laptop_2/

"BANDWIDTH LIMIT EXCEEDED" ? ? ?
Too bad. I really wanted to see more pics of this thing.

a very Bioshock laptop
I've seen a lot of steampunk mods to hardware the last few years but not many cyberpunk mods. You know the stuff that looks like it was made by th Borg. Has anyone seen anything like that recently?
