Polls closing in the 2007 Weblogs Awards -- vote for Engadget now!
Polls are about to close in the 2007 Weblog Awards at 2PM Pacific / 5PM Eastern TODAY... that's just a few minutes. This is probably your last shot to let your voice be heard in the category of Best Technology Blog.Much love to everyone who's already voted -- and to everyone else, sorry about the spammy popularity contest angle here, we just always wanted to be Treasurer in our high school student body and are trying oh so hard to relive the dream, you know?
P.S. -PLEASE don't cheat. Even if we won it would still be hollow. Thanks dudes and dudettes.
Update: Wow, it's neck and neck. Every vote is counting at this point, although we're really hoping these guys aren't powering their with Diebold software.
Update 2: Did we win? It kind of looks like we won! Although the peeps at the Weblog awards still need to tabulate, count, recount, etc. We'll see, but in the mean time we'll carry on with our regularly scheduled programming.

Guys, something's wrong! Giz has suddenly taken over the lead. Do something everyone. Get voting...
hempey @ Nov 8th 2007 4:23PM
they're pulling away... it may be too late unless you have 2,000 IPs.
applefreak @ Nov 8th 2007 5:10PM

you got your 2000 IPs
Engadget wins by 307 votes
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yishai @ Nov 8th 2007 3:34PM
I must say, Gizmodo's hail mary "vote for us post" had a way better graphic...So I made my vote for them.
Michael L. @ Nov 8th 2007 3:51PM
You jerk. You come here, and take up Engadget's bandwidth, and yet you don't vote for them?! Shame on you.
Danny @ Nov 8th 2007 4:18PM
Just in case you missed Ryan's post, yishai:

Ryan Block @ Nov 8th 2007 4:44PM
Clever, Danny. Sometimes jokes can be misconstrued, I thought better of it.
Alex Padilla @ Nov 8th 2007 4:50PM
@ Ryan Block
your response (the second one, lol) is EXACTLY why I voted for Engadget every day since the elections opened. nothing but quality.
PS - thanks for accepting the friend request on facebook
TEM @ Nov 8th 2007 4:52PM
Interesting that this online poll business got Ryan agitated enough make a snarky comment, but does not have the balls to leave it up there?
Frankly, I'm disappointed (not about the comment, that it was not left up there).
I guess that is the difference between Gizmodo and Engadget: those guys are openly pr!cks, and don't try to cover it up.
Danny @ Nov 8th 2007 4:54PM
I agree, Ryan. It's a shame how easily jokes can be taken the wrong way, especially on the Internet. I didn't post the image out of spite (I'm not even American :P), it was merely to help yishai in his inevitable confusion as to why he got an email linking to a comment that didn't exist. Please remove my post if you think it's necessary.
applefreak @ Nov 8th 2007 5:12PM
WHY DID YOU VOTE FOR THE BAD GUYS TRAITOR!?!
Ethan @ Nov 8th 2007 5:12PM
It'd piss me off if somebody reduced what I do to that. This is the industry award, it'd be like voting on the oscars based on the dvd cover.
But seriously, Engadget is the one I've found to be most correct and clear, with the best analysis. But I've already voted.
Johan S @ Nov 8th 2007 6:04PM
Why the hell would you vote for gizmondo because of some graphic?? You OK?
Engadget is much better. The best and most fun to read. And it sometimes they have really funny photoshops -- like that Microsoft HD jpeg logo one recently .. that was hilarious.
Ryan Block @ Nov 8th 2007 6:29PM
It's cool, Danny. I had a hard time resisting the snarky joke, but I knew it would turn the conversation a direction it shouldn't have gone so I pulled it.
Still, Ethan totally nailed it. Reducing the enormous amount of effort and love we put into this thing down to a single image on a single post... that's actually significantly more offensive than some of the crap the trolls fling at me.
Johan S @ Nov 8th 2007 6:40PM
When the winner is announced .. and if engadget comes out on top .. I look forward to a cool graphic that celebrates it.
Andir3.0 @ Nov 8th 2007 6:52PM
I must say, even though it's not up there anymore, I feel a little offended that Ryan block even feels that way about "Americans." :o
Removed post or not, he posted it.
TEM @ Nov 8th 2007 7:15PM
Ryan, I was not trying to troll you, just think that you should have left your comment up, regardless of how people react.
Mysterious "edits" and deletions are part of the reasons why many people don't trust the old-media, even when they get on the 'net. I wish I had a friggin dollar for every time AP, Reuters, and AFP have pulled that shit without accounting for it.
In any case, my point was that this being your site, you can obviously say what you can, as you should be entitled to. However, I think your readers would appreciate it if you guys stand by what you initially say, and if you make changes, that you acknowledge them. Quite often here on Engadget and Autoblog images get replaced and whatnot without a mention that something changed.
Just my opinion.
Ryan Block @ Nov 8th 2007 8:33PM
Ok guys, point taken, as a gesture here's my comment I deleted. (I was thinking about banning myself but decided against it.) "So you voted not based on quality of editorial or even personal preference, but because of the image we used on the post? Wow, I bet you're an American, aren't you?"
Andir3.0 -- I'm an American born and raised, as are 95% of the editors on our US site. Like I said, it was a joke. And like many jokes, there's a distinct element of truth to it.
Dilan Jay @ Nov 9th 2007 6:31PM
Ryan, love you for what ya doing man, if I could do my bit by your age like you have I'd be one happy chap.
Cheers,
Dilan
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 11th 2007 10:06AM
Ryan, someone like me woudn't get offended at your post at all. I'm just like that. I make jokes of our partly stupid population. Besides the joke was funny.
Gerson @ Nov 8th 2007 3:34PM
OMG it's so close. I just voted, and we're only down by .4%!
Rohit Kapur @ Nov 8th 2007 3:37PM
Man, Ryan, I've voted every chance I've gotten since your first announcement of the contest. And I can't believe that I'm watching Engadget lose! Jeez!
It would be a shame if any other blog (I don't care if it's Gizmondo or Granma's Big Blog of Gadgets) won the contest. I've read around, and I've always come right back here in the end.
Well, no matter what happens, you guys'll always be the best for me. Keep up the good work, Master Chief Ryan Block!
Orikinla Osinachi @ Nov 8th 2007 3:39PM
Congratulations in anticipation of being the best Technology Blog for 2007.

I voted.
Cheers and God bless our good wishes.
fLUx @ Nov 8th 2007 3:52PM
Gizmodo got my vote.....better graphic!!
Michael L. @ Nov 8th 2007 3:54PM
I smell botnet in favor of Gizmodo...
Alan Partridge @ Nov 8th 2007 4:05PM
Its ok, a Mr Jeb Gizmodo is governor of weblogawards.org so I'm sure everything is above board...
Ed @ Nov 8th 2007 4:20PM
From the voting page:
Each poll is checked during the voting and after polls close for excessive voting from individual machines. If excess voting is found it is noted and the votes are removed.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 8th 2007 3:56PM
gizmodo is winning!!! it's the sign of the apocalypse!!!!!!!!
Danny @ Nov 8th 2007 4:07PM
The only thing Engadget lacks is a UK, or European, edition. Still, no-one comes close when it comes to editorial quality and the "is it on my Google Page?" category.
tl;dr: Voted Engadget.
applefreak @ Nov 8th 2007 5:17PM

if you increment the number at the end of this link by 1 (after the $) you can re submit the url and vote as many times as you want. (someone must be cheating). lol
joe23521 @ Nov 8th 2007 4:34PM
I certainly wouldn't be shocked if some people spent some time doing this in the past couple of days, where a LOT of ground had been gained.
Ryan Block @ Nov 8th 2007 4:45PM
Please guys, don't cheat. I'd rather lose fairly than win with people cheating the system.
Wesburl @ Nov 8th 2007 7:25PM
Is it cheating if you legally own 50,000 IP addresses??? Don't worry, I didn't use more than one... otherwise this would not have even been close lol. iNgadget FTW!!
ark_v2 @ Nov 11th 2007 12:37PM
This is one of the reasons I didn't vote for gizmodo. They encouraged multiple voting in their posts.
Ty @ Nov 8th 2007 4:24PM
I voted for engadget a few times and at this point I don't care who wins or loses. Just make this thing go away.
Ryan Block @ Nov 8th 2007 4:45PM
Hear hear!
Jon @ Nov 8th 2007 4:24PM
Well, we were on top for quite awhile...what a difference a graphic makes.
I hope Engadget wins, but isn't our (the reader's) fault if it doesn't? I'd say people should vote, but if they are reading this then they most likely already have.
Al @ Nov 8th 2007 4:30PM
I couldn't put up with Gizmodo's rabid Apple fanboyism and stupid iPhones with ^_^ faces
I dropped them from my feedreader and have been a lot less angry.
Go Engadget!
Denver_80203 @ Nov 8th 2007 4:33PM
43.8% vs giz at 43.3%

Only down by 70 - keep it up Engadgeteers!
chad @ Nov 8th 2007 4:38PM
If self promotion is a guage you should have no problem... What's next? (gag) :)
TheGuy @ Nov 8th 2007 4:39PM
Looks like this vote is gonna come down to the wire.
Rajkumar @ Nov 8th 2007 4:42PM
we're back in the lead!
Mort @ Nov 8th 2007 4:42PM
I'm a little amused. About 24 hours ago when I left work, Engadget was ahead by nearly 4,000 votes and growing. Now they trail by about 106 (at time of writing this)... however they had continue to rise at the same pace as they have all week from casual observations (it gave me something to do while code was compiling). As was Giz, a fairly predictable pace of 4 or 5 of votes for Engadget to 1 for Giz.
That means in the span of roughly 23.5 hours Giz has gained a HUGE amount of votes. This was not a "slow crawl" this was a sudden explosion of votes. In under 24 hours, they have gained roughly 7.5% of the 54553 total votes.
Something smells odd.
Ed @ Nov 8th 2007 4:42PM
...And Engadget takes the lead!
but seriously, don't cheat guys.
