Wii clone being "played" caught on video
Been thinking about investing in a Vii -- the low-rent Chinese knock-off of Nintendo's Wii -- but you're just not sure you want to fork over the cash? Check out this footage of the infamous console in action, delivered by our friends at Engadget Chinese. Just imagine getting together with your whole family for a round of Happy Tennis, Free Craps or Alacrity Golf -- you, grandma and the kids all twitching spasmodically, desperately trying to control the on-screen "action" with the janky Viimote. With playability like this, you'll probably need anger management. Check the video after the break and see what we mean.

joe23521 @ Nov 8th 2007 10:49AM
Actually, it looks better than I had imagined.
J @ Nov 8th 2007 10:57AM
I second that -- this actually reminds me of how I thought the Wii would be the first time I played it. This toy is a disaster compared to the Wii, but that's because the Wii is a very good platform across the board. If the Wii is a 10/10 in terms of controls, this looks to be about a 5/10 -- not too bad for a knockoff.
James @ Nov 8th 2007 10:44PM
sorry but the wii is not a very good platform across the board and the controls are hardly 10/10.
Mike @ Nov 8th 2007 4:17PM
I'm actually more interested in whether or not someone could grab the interior of a wiimote and put it into a viimote and use that instead...looks a bit more comfy, and would be something to laugh about with other engadgeteers xD
Brian @ Nov 8th 2007 11:09AM
cheap knockoff console is a cheap knockoff
Le Master @ Nov 8th 2007 11:19AM
How much less can this cost than the Wii? The price of a Wii already pretty much is a steal.
joe23521 @ Nov 8th 2007 11:27AM
The thing is that the wii hasn't been released in China yet.
apeguero @ Nov 8th 2007 2:00PM
Is it Lead and Date Rape drug free?
Alexander @ Nov 8th 2007 11:51AM
I bet that thing is full of mercury. No, really!
Gilbert @ Nov 8th 2007 7:58PM
Or GHB, or Lead, or Lead paint, or razor sharp edges, or uranium, or the "plastic" is actually carved out of a big rat poison block, or SARS, or avian bird flu, or TB and/or the tears of a million unicorns.
No really!
Well maybe not the tears of unicorns but still.
Alexander @ Nov 8th 2007 8:31PM
hahaha... speaking of sharp edges... There is a bunch of them in the Wii... Cut my finger pretty nasty on the metal shield.
whatsdamattau @ Nov 9th 2007 12:02AM
One word: TRIPOD! I don't know why people insist on taking video in very low light and don't use a tripod. It makes for a very frustrating experience for the viewer. If a tripod isn't available then use a monopod or put the camera on a table. Geez!
Why is Engadget so in love with this Vii? It's a knockoff. Unless Engadget loves promoting counterfeit items that defy copyright and patent laws then I don't think they should be showing us junk like this. In fact, why don't they promote file sharing and stealing copyrighted music? Why don't they promote knockoff wristwatches?
Charlie @ Dec 8th 2007 6:47PM
I don't know if you've been reading the actual articles, but they haven't exactly been holding the thing in high regard...
Anonymous.Skull @ Nov 12th 2007 1:32AM
I honestly thought it was going to be much, much worse than it actually was.
joe @ Nov 8th 2007 12:10PM
Its load times are amazing!
teebo @ Nov 8th 2007 3:06PM
You would think with the Chinese knockoff companies being experienced in pirated NES games, they could add a virtual console to it. Imagine a 10000000-in-1 virtual console subsystem in the unit as well. :)
Sooo when can I stroll into WalMart and buy one?
Steve @ Nov 8th 2007 3:00PM
Ahahaha @ the dice rolling game....
joe23521 @ Nov 8th 2007 4:25PM
How could you laugh at a game named "Free Craps?"
mike @ Nov 8th 2007 2:45PM
that thing is about as responsive as my wife!
