Nokia outing new Nseries phone this week, N82 odds-on favorite
Alright, there's not much to look at here, but we get the idea. Curtains, a countdown timer, "Nokia Nseries" logo at the top -- can only mean one thing, right? We're less than three days away from some sort of announcement from Nokia's smartphone group here, and with the groundswell of N82 buzz the past few days, we'd say the odds of an official N82 launch going down here lie somewhere between "high" and "very high." Stay tuned, folks.

Another iPhone killer, I presume.
JohnTitor @ Nov 11th 2007 8:48PM
just cause it's better than the iPhone doesn't mean it's a killer
that's up to the public
John Doe @ Nov 11th 2007 11:28PM
If its a phone its automatically a killer. so I'd say its a sure thing.
StrangeBum @ Nov 12th 2007 8:18AM
I gave you a minus, not because of the iPhone killer comment, but because of the '#1' comment. I'm sick of that, and besides, you really didn't make much of an argument stating why this will be an iPhone killer anyways.
I personally think that this phone will be much better, and that it should sell much better than it really will. Most people that purchased and iPhone are just in it for the notoriety of owning it. True gadget-geeks who care about what they are using should see that while the iPhone has it's perks, that so many other phones out there offer the same usability but with much more powerful utilities and apps and what-not and would actually care about something like this.
So all in all, iPhone killer it is not. Should it be, probably, but unfortunately it will never be.
Constable Odo @ Nov 13th 2007 2:15PM
First of all, should #1 really annoy you just because you're not #1. I know it's childish, but please don't take it personally. I always thought it was like a standing joke to be the first to comment.
Second of all, I think this Nokia is a nice, full featured handset. Usually any new top-of-the-line handset is gonna be compared to the iPhone. Whenever a new handset has more features than the iPhone it's called an iPhone killer. I don't make the comparisons, somebody else does that.
I don't use any cellphone so I'm not qualified to judge how good any handset is compared to another.
Totalfixation @ Nov 11th 2007 8:28PM
If its anything like the iPhone ill finally get a Nokia after how many years? (last nokia was the 8290.
Constable Odo @ Nov 11th 2007 8:29PM
I have to admit it's a very nice full-featured handset. I can't imagine how they get a lot of battery life with so many features (chipsets). More power to Nokia. It looks like they have another winner.
OK @ Nov 11th 2007 8:33PM
It could also be the n810.
Aaron @ Nov 11th 2007 9:18PM
They said it was from the smartphone group.
Again....the n810 is not smartphone. It's an Internet Tablet/UMPC.
OK @ Nov 11th 2007 9:41PM
Who said that it is from the smartphone group? The nokia website linked does not say if it is a phone or anything else, and the n810 is part of the n series.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 11th 2007 8:49PM
I'm really expecting something good. I'd really want to get a new nokia because I haven't had one for a long time. I hope it has some competetive traits to not just the iphone but a lot of smartphones. It should also count up to a decent price. If that comes I'm all for it.
dante @ Nov 11th 2007 8:57PM
N82 launch? This is Nokia we're talking about, right? More like an N82 annoucement.
JP @ Nov 11th 2007 10:43PM
Yeah and then 6 months down the track it will be released in a single obscure south-east asian country while the rest of the world waits another few months (not to mention the US waiting for the right 3G frequency).
John Doe @ Nov 11th 2007 11:29PM
You mean like Apple does to the rest of the world?
floxir @ Nov 11th 2007 9:00PM
It looks awesome.
Qsat @ Nov 11th 2007 9:04PM
I called Nokia last week to order a n810 and they said that it will be available on november 14th, so it could be this too.
bluesky_v2.01 @ Nov 11th 2007 9:24PM
Whoa, whoa . . . wait. Why am I not excited about this? I love nokia, how could i miss this?
Maybe some photos to get the crowd going, huh?
js @ Nov 11th 2007 10:02PM
That is clearly a ripoff of Apple's backdrop for "One More Thing" event.

As if Apple doesn't ripoff other ads.
A recent one being the latest iPod Touch ad featuring the exact same music as one in a previous Zune ad.
iPhone ad: http://youtube.com/watch?v=l3eiJohsRwM
Zune ad: http://youtube.com/watch?v=G-AJrnJNZb4
All I'm just saying is, is that ideas get borrowed all the time. So stop pointing out 'copycats'.
Ruben @ Nov 12th 2007 12:09AM
Yea, and all these car shows ripped off apple using a large curtain to hide their releases when those are revealed.
And all those broadway shows that use curtains to hide the main stage before a play starts. Dont they have any shame?
I wouldnt be suprised if Nokia did this on purpose, as a direct attack against apple. Nokia usually doesnt do this. They just release their devices and everyone moves on with their life. Apple has put suspense into things that should have never been associated with suspense.
tyler @ Nov 11th 2007 10:12PM
after some actionscript decompiling of the site, it appears to look to the page http://launch.luxusdev.com/launch.aspx for the countdown data-- and upon some more peeking around in the actionscript code it contains references to "n82_virtual_event" and "n82/virtual_event/"
even the people from http://www.intomobile.com/2007/11/10/brief-confirmed-countdown-timer-on-nseries-is-for-the-nokia-n82.html
confirm it :)
woot-- n82.. that's going to be one cool (expensive) phone.
Andrew Horn @ Nov 11th 2007 10:44PM
Whenever a company has a countdown, it always feels a little pretentious. I'm sure it will be nice, and maybe something like "3 days left" would be fine, but whenever seconds are included I would say it's safe to label the marketing as "over the top".
Suhail @ Nov 12th 2007 12:30AM
Yep, decompiling the swf presents:
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("_hbPageview", "n82_virtual_event", "/Microsites/n82/virtual_event/");
tealfixie @ Nov 12th 2007 1:23AM
I'd be happy if there was some kind of qwerty keyboard. A smartphone without one is dumb.
Pdexter @ Nov 12th 2007 2:54AM
Isnt next big announcement in Demember 4th Nokia world?
So hopefully we will see E61 replacment or maybe just maybe first S60 TS.
MarkoUK @ Nov 13th 2007 4:15AM
Why are all new phones that remotely resemble an iPhone or in that feature bracket an iPhone killer?? To be honest, I think the Nokia 5110 is an iPhone killer. It has better features than it anyway!
