Smart closet tells clueless geeks what to wear
If you count yourself as one of a legion of the "clothes clueless," then this smart closet could be the end of your troubles. It sounds as if you'll need a wardrobe full of RFID tagged clothes for it to work -- although the specific technology isn't clear -- but once your clothes are wired sown up, your wardrobe will inform you when you "accidentally" choose the same clothes the second time you meet the same person, and will give you advice on the correct shoes to go with your outfit, among other hints. Of course, the inventors have overlooked an array of paradoxes here (if you're organized enough to set this up, you've gotta have some common sense) but we like the wackiness of the idea anyway. If the future's anything like this, we better be ready for a whole lot of patronizing machines.

ChrisG @ Nov 18th 2007 10:17PM
G4 totally ruined everything, no more Kevin Rose and Dark Tips, Unscrewed with Martin Sargent, or Screensavers. well i guess Attack of the Show isn't that bad.
Josh @ Nov 18th 2007 11:36PM
I thought i was the only one who missed the screen savers... that was the best tech show ever devised! Patrick and his kilts are lost forever...
frozo @ Nov 18th 2007 11:53PM
Check out some of the TechTV crowd on the TWIT podcast.

DarkLightConnection @ Nov 18th 2007 10:28PM
Yes, VERY slow...
It's not all bad though, this gives me time to go offline and play with my modem's debug mode :-D
muyi @ Nov 19th 2007 1:32AM
im honestly tired of the 'slow news day' cliche...i mean come on its the fucking weekend
Dull @ Nov 18th 2007 10:26PM
"Clueless" was a funny movie.
Carbonize @ Nov 18th 2007 10:28PM
Does it keep track of your dirty magazines as well?
Jeremy K. @ Nov 18th 2007 10:33PM
hrmm... don't you mean "sewn up"?
plaka999 @ Nov 18th 2007 10:40PM
I'll bet more than one tie or 'going on a date' would make this thing explode ("beep beep does not compute does not compute" - BOOM!). Have the math/AV/model-rocketry club meetings covered, though.
plaka999 @ Nov 18th 2007 10:43PM
and the photo has just black and white T's in it - binary logic, LOL

Protip:
You can hardly go wrong with Diesel jeans and a thermal from American Eagle (or from anywhere really)
Protip:
Unless you are over 6 foot, don't tuck. Even if you are over 6 foot, don't tuck unless your pants sit dead even with your waist.
Protip:
If you are fat, a hoodie is the most slimming thing you could possibly buy. You'd be better off hitting the gym though.
Oh and this comment is over nine THOUSANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.
Deuz Augustine @ Nov 19th 2007 12:16AM
Just chiming in, American Eagle sucks. :(
www.lechateau.com You don't have this place in USA I think, but it rocks.
j @ Nov 19th 2007 10:52AM
Or you could have a job that requires professional attire. Having worked as a professional geek for well over a decade, I can assure you there are more jobs for geeks that don't allow jeans than those that do (at least high paying jobs).
Leonard Nimrod @ Nov 18th 2007 11:10PM
Apple created iCloset few years ago, but it was limited to only blue jeans and black turtlenecks. Not their best innovation.
Bie Kipper @ Nov 18th 2007 11:21PM
But it "just works." :-D
derX @ Nov 19th 2007 12:46AM
Yes, but I believe you have to hack it to use third party programs--I mean, to use other colored clothing.
Nex @ Nov 19th 2007 2:33AM
have you come out of the "icloset yet"

smart closet. I bet the regular closets are jealous.. I wonder if it can talk too, man that'll be a lot of fun... It'll be nice to have a smart conversation with your closet before you head to work..
BrettB @ Nov 18th 2007 11:36PM
Looks like the inventors may need to start using their invention.
Wwhat @ Nov 19th 2007 7:57AM
Yeah how about an after picture too.
spm.peapot @ Nov 18th 2007 11:52PM
It's going to be very diffcult to dress in a non-geeky fashion even for a Super Computer because all the shirts in the closet are white and all the pants are black!!
Chuckles McGee @ Nov 19th 2007 12:39AM
So with digital accuracy, this will be able to tell your significant other that yes, that dress does make her butt look big.
Well, maybe that would be "ex-significant other" if you decided to put it into effect.
SAM @ Nov 19th 2007 12:42AM
Hmmm...
Levis, Levis with 1 hole, Levis with 2 holes
Clean Levis for special occasions
TShirt White(dress up only), TShirt Black, TShirt Red
4 type of pants
3 type of shirts
X=#combos X 365days
Will I be seen in the same outfit X times in 1 year?
Isw there a computer program for this? LOL
seanchk @ Nov 19th 2007 12:42AM
There is no way I'd take fashion advice from a closet designed by either of those guys.
SFO Kevin @ Nov 19th 2007 12:47AM
Thank God I came out of the closet as a teenager!!!...
derX @ Nov 19th 2007 10:56PM
If not, you would have had a RFID chip implanted in you and been paired with a compatible top or bottom.
Not to far off, though....
LOL, I am just kidding around, here!
dawpa2000 @ Nov 19th 2007 12:49AM
The closet looks old.
xabra @ Nov 19th 2007 3:49AM
another scenario were a computer virus can have a real-life impact :-)

Depends on whether you are wearing a smart shirt, a causal shirt or a t-shirt. Smart shirts should always be tucked in, causal and t-shirts it depends on the shirt itself i.e. the scoop, and the fitting, what you wearing with it and whether you look smart in it.
//Protip:

Sorry, a hoodie is a bad choice, done up and it makes you have a double chin. Having it loose and it will put an extra 5kg on you, especially if you put stuff in your pockets. No, a better choice is a plain, v-necked, tight knit, fitted woollen jumper, with a light coloured top underneath.
This is why a computer is a bad choice for a wardrobe; it doesn’t understand shapes, colours, textures, and fittings.
Abdulrahman @ Nov 20th 2007 2:52AM
Funny,
I gues we are getting close to the time of the Boy Genius {Jimmy Neutron}
In neutron's it was "When Pants attack". I guess in reality we are going to see "When Clothes attack".
Just Joking.

I was on the Accenture team that built the original one of these back in 2001, so this is old old news. I was on the software team that helped build the Expert System that did the matching, and it was absolutely hilarious. We teamed with a group from Nordstrom, and they would always say things like "You could never wear that belt with those pants. Thats an evening belt, and those are day pants." Six guys in jeans and polos had one heck of a time crafting the rules for womens high fashion.
The closest never caught on, but the concept of trying to upsell you on a entire outfit did. Not sure how Accenture did with the idea, but I've seen the same concept from various online retailers.
