Samsung's VP-HMX10A HD camcorder makes retail premier
Samsung's VP-HMX10A camcorder is now on sale. No, not in North America or Europe, but S.Korea-only at the moment. ?799,000 (about $870) nabs this 720p recorder with 2.7-inch LCD and 4GB of internal flash storage for all your H.264 recordings (SD expansion for more) in a 310-gram barrel. With any luck these will go global on the quick.

I'm sorry but this just may be my adblocker but what adverts?

I assume you're a PC guy... thousands of Applebots have already got their iOrgasm when they saw that ad. Didn't you know engadget is a concentration camp for Applebots?

For a second I was confused by the title, but then I realized it was a typo.

...makes retail "premiere".

I wonder if this will not suck compared to all the other flash memory based HD camcorders...

This actually has been available in the US for a few days / weeks - the SC-HMX10.
Circuit City has it on sale right now for $630 or so:

(normal retail is $799) It sits really well in your hand, feels like a soda can, and the swivel group is more convenient than you'd initially think. Too bad Santa hasn't dropped a nice big lotto check on me yet :(

Is it best to wait until all camcorders reach a 1080P standard? I don't want to drop 1K on a 720P or 1080i unit that's redundant after a few weeks. Anyone have any input here?
Thanks in advance!
R.

I was thinking the same thing. At the same time, I don't want to burn it to BDR considering it's $700+ for HD camcorder, $300+ for a BD burner, plus the $25 per disk. I'm going to wait it out.
