Synchrotech ships 13-port USB 2.0 hub

If you've been wondering how you'll use all those USB-powered gizmos you've been collecting at the same time, ponder no more. Synchrotech is now shipping its 13-port USB 2.0 hub, which barely falls short of the 16-port alternative we peeked earlier this year. Notably, this creation boasts a much smaller, sleeker design that isn't likely to attract too much attention (until all those ports are filled, that is), but the baker's dozen is (obviously) backwards compatible with USB 1.1 and will cost you just $45. Oh, the possibilities.

Hey, with only 4-8 USB ports on your PC where else are you SUPPOSED to plug in your USB powered foot warmer, USB powered fan, USB powered air freshener, USB powered blender and sushi shaped USB flash drive? I think this fills the gap nicely...

How many children sticking paper clips into live outlets will it take to realize that USB /is/ better? I don't know many toddlers that know how to authenticate themselves and request a voltage over USB with common household items, do you?

If you actually plugged 13 USB cables into this, you'd have cables running every which way! At that point, there's no way to have efficient cable management.

Seems like a stupid idea. You are still sharing the one uplink. Better off with 2 or 3 hubs and using more than one uplink.

That would depend on what you're plugging into it.

If it's just stuff charging or otherwise not transferring data you have some leeway, but I do see your point.

Many devices trying to chatt at once might suck.

Many ideas often only seem stupid out of context. Suggesting that 2 or 3 hubs would be better is a stupid idea, at least in my situation..

My laptop at home only has 1 USB port (a mistake I will not make again). With a hub like this, I can hook my all 3 external hard drives, the DVD burner, printer, scanner, and card reader - as well as a keyboard and mouse. And I'd still have 4 ports open for flash drives and whatnot.

Ok, I get that you don't like the product, but that doesn't mean it is without use.

Try running 2 HD's and then burn something on a hub connected to a single USB port, see where that gets you, but bring a book.

It gets you nowhere fast, assuming all devices are on at the same time. That I have 3 external hard drives does not mean that all 3 are on at the same time. I use them for storage and system backups, not active work. So if I was burning a DVD, I'd have everything else turned off anyway.

Besides, leaving peripherals turned on when you're not using them is just a waste of electricity.

I currently have 3 6 port hubs. And I only use one high bandwidth device at once. I would LOVE 2 or 3 of these monsters.
