iPod touch has disabled audio line-in

Not that it took a lot of convincing for us or anything, but it turns out the audio input pins on the iPod touch are apparently active and able to record audio after all. Unfortunately the site detailing the relatively simple hack has already been demolished by info-hungry touch owners, but this certainly opens an interesting door or two. Next stop: figuring out how to get the headphone jack to do the same.[Via TUAW]

mobile skype? VoIP anyone? the ipod touch turns out to be a serious competitor for the iphone, correct me if i am wrong.

computer.dude.28: It probably wouldn't be a "serious" competitor, but there will probably be some people that would use a Touch as a VoIP phone if they could.
I just want my Apple-branded Radio Remote to work with iPT. That's not asking for much.

If they can get voip on a touch I would seriously consider getting one, and not till then.
If by 'they' you mean Apple then there is absolutely no chance of that happening this generation. 1. It would hurt the iPhone and 2. Apple only adds big new features to new products

Why does the title of this post suggest that the iPod Touch input doesn't work? If you go over to TUAW.com you will see that it DOES work.
Because the hardware is there, it's just disabled by Apple, and hackers have found ways to unleash/activate it.
Maybe Apple ought to change its slogan from "It just works" to "It doesn't work, but it can be hacked so that it does" :D.
Seriously, I don't see why one does have have to go through so much trouble to enable functionality (and run the risk of having the device bricked at the next firmware update) when there are plenty of PMPs in the market which offer that same functionality out of the box.
Demolished as in people flooded the site and used up all its bandwidth.

haha burned. symbian os have that feature for several years now, no installation no hack, and no money hungry company on your back.
