Just FYI, I have never owned an Apple product and probably never will.  They make nice software, but their hardware is trendy, overpriced consumer garbage.  Apple damn sure doesn't "hold a patent," but "slick" white plastics is their doing and anybody who says otherwise is full of shit. Good for Asus! But I understand what you meant even if the anti-Apple guys here think you meant it negatively. Yes, Asus is actually creating a good looking PC that could "steal" attention away from Apple! I want one of those Eee's, but I don't need this Asus because I already have a small form factor PC. You get more bang for the buck than with almost any other computer manufacturer.  It's just that they rarely make a low-end computer. The difference between Apple and say Dell is that Apple doesn't sell the crappy low end stuff that is dirt cheap.  The stuff that Dell sells that actually has similar specs to the stuff Apple sells is usually about the same price, sometimes Apple even comes out on top.  <br><br>You want to use a PC? So yes, you have seen an "HTPC" for under $1000 because Mini's sell new, better equipped than this ASUS, for under $1000. <br><br>Of course both Front Row and Media Center are built around product lock-in strategies designed to limit consumer choice. The Mini is smaller (this thing looks to be about 50% larger).  At $1000, the Mini's hardware specs blow this thing out of the water.<br><br>There is only one thing this beast may have that can trump the Mini (other than a trendy orange bit of plastic)--a real 3D video chipset. I haven't been able to find specs on the Asus to see if it uses that crappy Intel GM abomination like the Mini does.  <br><br>Otherwise, hardware to hardware (since both will run Windows or Linux), the Mini is a far better deal for the same amount of cash.<br><br>For the record, Apple is only slightly less evil than Microsoft.  I dislike them both. Think about it if you got a mac mini for lets say 600 bucks and then tried to turn it into a true HTPC it would cost as much if not more and it would have to be all external upgrades since the mini isn't really upgradeable when it comes to sound and video and whatnot, in fact I dont think you could really give it the type of video options that this machine has. Can you list a link to your source that shows a complete list of specifications?  Does it have a TV tuner?  3D graphics chipset?
