Since the introduction of the crappy Celeron, I've known people who made the mistake of ordering on, and have been appalled at the Celeron's lack of speed.<br><br>A reasonable person would be hoping for the death of Celeron; but no, Intel is perpetuating the Celeron with a Dual Core version. The current Celerons are as fast as Core 2 Duo's, except having half the L2 cache, single core, and no SpeedStep. They are otherwise identical in performance.<br><br>Pentium Dual Core, on the other hand, are slower than Celerons, but are dual core. The only difference is that some of the L2 cache is artificially disabled. That's right, it all is on the chip, so it probably won't be any cheaper for Intel to make than a normal "Core 2" chip, but they still get at the people who fall below the demand curve at Core 2's higher prices without jeopardizing their other product lines.<br><br>Celeron = Marketing gimmick. I even did the same with the AMD Duron chips.  When you're strapped for cash and you have the know-how to overclock(no one does this anymore do they?!!?) the Celeron was hard to beat.<br><br>Since I don't use my PC as a gaming platform anymore, low powered, lame CPU's are my first choice.
