D300 is not even a full frame. But with the lens, it still costs about $2100. 5D currently goes for around $3000. Increasing the pixel count would have a very negative effect on light sensitivity.  A camera with better light sensitivity and color reproduction will out perform a higher pixel count camera. Just like the 5D and the 1Ds Mark II, it can't have the same pixel count, and differ in price by $5,000. <br><br>So if it's a high-end camera - and the 5D is due to be replaced - it's likely to be this. Or a replacement for the Digital Rebel. Nikon has been gutting their market on the low end with better ISO performance and lower prices. Time for Canon to take the next step down into the lower echelons.<br><br>BTW, anyone who compares a D3 to the 5D is missing the point. They don't even support their 1-year old product with Vista. I bought the SD430 because it had Wifi, and they don't even support it with Vista. Wifi is totally useless with Vista, and even if you have IE7 on XP, it still doesn't work. I e-mailed Canon and they said they have no plans for any updates to the software. The biggest thing I have read is that with the Live View ability it would be possible to intro the Movie Mode into the dSLR. The 5D has been out for two years, and Nikon just introduced their first FF camera.  For me the big question will be just how much ass will the new camera kick?  They certainly have had a long time to work on it without any pressure from the competition.  I'm hoping for a 3" screen, 98% viewfinder, an improvement in viewfinder magnification, low noise (please be 16mp or less!), and improved AF and buffer size. They don't need new models in 3-digit series. But they do lack a up-to-date full frame model for pro-sumers -- 5D is 2-3 years old and lack some new tech like sensor cleaning system. They usually announce the lower end (xti) then their highest end (1d mark III) then they fill in everything in between.  I think the 450d will come when they're ready to upgrade everything else...mid next year. Anyone who has actually used it says it's just a marketing gimmick and doesn't really work (except maybe the version Olympus uses). The new 5D will probably be 16mp like the 1DSMKII. If they fix the build quality and ergonomics it might be a tempting camera over the D300 otherwise it's still an amateur camera with excellent image quality. I have a 1D Mark III, and I shoot 3500+ frames on most Sundays between April and November, usually in very dusty conditions. The sensor cleaning is a very welcome addition, and it DOES work.
