We're talking 25-33% of a typical (pre-Eee) ultraportable, here. And besides, as it's new technology, the price will certainly go down later on. If you're not willing to pony up a premium to use such a light-weight machine with excellent battery life right now, just wait a little longer. But don't bash the concept. Have you used a WinMo device? It's the closest thing to self-mutilation you can find. I, stupidly, purchased a Samsung SCH-i760 before I came to realize how bad the UI was and now I'm stuck with it. The one saving grace that WinMo has is it's plethora of 3rd party apps which mean a wealth of alternative skins, themes, and wrappers.

As for the Celio, I suppose it has promise despite it's rather limited market. It seems to me that the last thing I want to be complex is my cell phone. I understand with functionality comes complexity but that complexity shouldn't be evident in the top-level interface. Though I hesitate to mention it, this can be seen in the iPhone. Say what you want about the keyboard or what-have-you, in terms of the convergence of function and usability, you can't do better. As mobie processors increase is speed and power, a device like this becomes MORE relevant. A KVM for the phone is exactly what this is. Sure Windows Mobile needs to mature for something like this to really be great, but it will as devices themselves become more powerful. Let's not forget that this device has no 'real' OS or processor, and there's nothing to keep this from working with PalmOS or even an Android phone, given the right drivers.

As a mobile manager, I love the idea of pulling out something like this when I need to take a few notes or look up something on the web. I've already got the phone with me, and I really don't need to fire up the laptop.

I think that Palm's direction, putting a separate OS on the Foleo, was the mistake, not the concept, and the price point of the Foleo and the Redfly is a bit high, but I'm willing to pay to be an early adopter.

Jon
