Even if my dvd player, in its current location, had enough clearance for an ipod on top, I would still have to get down on hands and knees to try to get the thing in and out of there properly.

Companies should instead opt for some kind of standard peripheral port into which you can plug an ordinary ipod cord or simple ipod base stand.
