Palm "Drucker" in the mix, better only than "Zeppelin" among Palm codenames
The Treo 680 and 750 are getting a little long in the tooth, are they not? The 680 has a spiritual successor in the Centro -- the 750, though, not so much (come on, the 500v does not count). That might just be where this "Drucker" comes into play, a phone listed on Vodafone's 2008 roadmap that alleges Windows Mobile 6.1, a 320 x 320 (!) display, 2 megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, and triband 3.6Mbps HSDPA when it comes down the pike this July. In fact, we can pretty much guarantee it'll be replacing the 750v, seeing how it says so right on the slide. Sadly we don't have any visuals on this one (something tells us this ominous gray box isn't the actual phone), but it looks like Voda's targeting a price of £270 (about $534) and we'd be pretty shocked if we didn't see an AT&T launch in roughly the same time frame.

Of COURSE there is no picture! Asus hasn't decided the externals yet!
YourTechSupport @ Jan 5th 2008 5:26PM
Actually. If they put an apple logo on the gray box I bet they'd sell millions!
Jon @ Jan 5th 2008 5:27PM
If the specs are true then this would entice me to upgrade from my XDA Orbit. Hope that an unlock version will hit the market as no way will I return to Vodafone anytime soon.

WTF? “Drucker” is German for “printer”. Does that name sound as strange in English as it does in German? How to best pronounce it? Who invents such a name?
zorg @ Jan 5th 2008 7:38PM
This name was coined by the same high-level executive responsible for the forthcoming:
* Palm Hindenburg, featuring Flash
* Palm Titanic, completely waterproof
* Palm Black Friday, built-in stock market predictions
These new models will rescue Palm from certain oblivion, carrying forward its exciting corporate strategy of rolling over and playing dead.

OH!?!?!? did Palm not go bankrupt yet??
Jeff @ Jan 5th 2008 5:55PM
...As in Mort Drucker, the MAD artist?

You wrote that? Really? You wrote that?
Here is my wager. By the time the real name, specs, and photos are released and the phone is 30 days away from release, your RELEVANT POSTS blurb will say (206 days ago - 25 comments.)
By the way, are we so dissatisfied that we must get a $500 phone every 12 months? I got my Treo 750 in January 2007. I would love something to look forward to, but all my friends are still fronting with RZRS.
By the beard of Zeus, I just downloaded WM6 last week!

Peter Ferdinand Drucker coined, 'knowledge economy' and 'knowledge worker.'
He was a management consultant, hence, 'The Drucker.'
Palm is soooo obscure in reference....

Is me the only one who is surprised by the "palm smartphone with WiFi"?
I mean, since years ago the only thing that alot of palm fanboys ask for is a Treo with WiFi, wich palm seemed to take forever to do, and now that you have it, no one talks about it?
Michael @ Jan 5th 2008 7:37PM
"palm smartphone with WiFi"..
Yeah, I used to be one of those Palm fanboys, and the announcement of integrated WiFi would have been 'awesome'.. a couple of years ago.
Once upon a time, I was hotly anticipating Cobalt to be shortly released; I'm a bit over that now.

If Palm is still around in 5 years to release their new fancy Palm OS / Access Linux / Whatever with true multitasking and VGA resolution, I doubt I'll be too excited about it.
A cookie for effort (Palm), but I'm quite amazed they're still in business.
I'm not bitter. ;)
Jonathan @ Jan 5th 2008 6:17PM
wifi!!? It's about time. Oh wait... July. [sigh]

Is 'me' the only one that thinks you should study a few grammar lessons? fanboy? Is this 2003?
DarkLightConnection @ Jan 5th 2008 6:54PM
Send me the grammar lessons... But you pay for them..
BTW, I'm not from an English speaking place
And yes, my clock reads 2003.... (damn display, is missing two segments of the 8)
Jonathan Bergeron @ Jan 5th 2008 6:32PM
20 bucks says it's a fat phone that looks like a cross between the Centro and Treo.
Russell @ Jan 5th 2008 11:07PM
probs, i love palm but they suck right now
Jonathan Bergeron @ Jan 5th 2008 11:49PM
i love Palm too; but holy shit, their design department is one of the worst in the business. i don't get it.
Ryan @ Jan 5th 2008 7:07PM
Long live Peter F Drucker, the father of modern management.
Baz @ Jan 5th 2008 7:13PM
Drucker?
As in Mr Drucker, the none-too-bright grocer from Green Acres, Petticoat Junction & Beverley Hillbillies?
XGM @ Jan 5th 2008 7:20PM
OMG Palm with WiFi built in !!! Heck they even put a GPS :O.
Finally they listen, but is it too late ? Or will they be able to pull it off with some killer looks.
PS: Hope they make a new Palm OS for this one of it is successful, since im not much of a fan of Windows Mobile.
DarkLightConnection @ Jan 5th 2008 7:22PM
LOL, exactly, this is what I meant :-)
Russell @ Jan 5th 2008 11:06PM
Fuck Palm shit I'm on Verizon they'll get this December 2099
dlehmer @ Jan 5th 2008 11:20PM
I wonder if it has a built in printer- drucker means printer in german.
