It mentions HDTV streaming and since their other ReadyNAS's have gigabit, I don't know why this one would be different. While I've sold several clients on ReadyNAS boxes with two drives, and they do (usually, though not always) continue to work with a single drive failure, removing a drive and continuing to function is only half (or maybe 1/3) of the battle. Putting the drive back in or replacing it with another one without a power cycle will hang the box or corrupt your data. Also, while the box should boot with the drive you just pulled (and stored offsite for backup purposes), it's not clear how well that works in practice. Hopefully they'll spend some resources getting their firmware up to snuff and spend less time adding (broken) features. Any idea how big the external power brick on the Duo is?

wpns

Comments on Hands-on with the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo

meh.
I prefer using a mini pc (120watt -500celeron) with 300gb drives it it instead.

unless of course this NAS drive can download torrents? but it can't so ... moving on.

dj-kenpo

Comments on Hands-on with the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo

"the drives include built-in support for BitTorrent as well"

http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/06/hands-on-with-the-netgear-readynas-duo/

beatromantic

Comments on Hands-on with the Netgear ReadyNAS Duo

I stand corrected and awesomed. still prefer using mini pc's pulled from the trash though

dj-kenpo
