GREAT machine... just got mine today...
...
I haven't even turned it on before I looked inside, and got lets say, upset.
To say Gateway cut corners on this one would be the mother of all understatements.
First of all it has ONE whopping 80mm case fan, and another STANDARD 80mm case fan on a STANDARD heat-sync for the MUCH hotter AMD Phenom "Quad core"; note the quotation marks... I put those there for the fact that I just learned that the MB that is running the CPU was built for the dual cores and that thought this will run the quad, you will not get the full performance you should from a "gaming" PC. Then the fact that there is NO firewire hook up... none. it DOES have a totally useless dial-up modem (remember those?) taking up space though. The thing is all just glitz and glam, and will not be performing to what you could spend around the same price building yourself... don't be fooled on this one guys.

ryu3180

Comments on Gateway rolls out Phenom-powered FX7020 gaming PC

Sorry, it also does NOT come with that monitor, the NVidia GeForce 8800GT it the bare-bones "b" line version, and it just looks terrible and not worth the price they are asking... I'm honestly taking mine back tomorrow (didn't even start it up, wont get hooked on it's processing "quality") I predict this to be shortly the end of Gateway's marketability. Didn't they just get E-machines?

ryu3180

Comments on Gateway rolls out Phenom-powered FX7020 gaming PC

I just bought one of these things and people told me Dell was BAd.Once I turned the computer on it gave me trouble!

steve

Comments on Gateway rolls out Phenom-powered FX7020 gaming PC

Just picked one up at BB this weekend, with the Gateway 22 inch HD monitor. Great deal, great value. Everything else in that price range runs either ATI 2400 or the Nvidia 8400 or 8500... So have to say, it is not for the hardest of hardcore gamer, maybe, but works darn good for the rest of us.

theglue

Comments on Gateway rolls out Phenom-powered FX7020 gaming PC

I was at Best Buy and they had one on display with a demo of the game World in Conflict. I ran the demo test of the game on it using the native resolution of the 24 inch screen of 1920 x 900 at the VERY HIGH graphic settings and it ran smooth as butter. Anyone that has played or seen WIC knows that his game is very hard on even the very high end gaming machines with the 8800 cards, and this one played it with ease. God Bless !!!

JULZ

Comments on Gateway rolls out Phenom-powered FX7020 gaming PC

Well, well, well - There's a LOT of naysayers here, but I bought the BB package also - FX7020, 22" HD monitor and a 3-in-1 throw printer (didn't care about that). I have looked at building a PC extensively for about a year and a geed friend just built one with an Intel E6700 processor, 4G ram and 8800 GTX 768MB - we are both running Call of Duty 4 at max. settings on 1680 x 1050 res - he is getting the same frame rates I am.

So - this may not be a high end gaming PC, but for the package price, there is no way I could significantly exceed the performance of this for the same money without doing a bunch of overclocking BS (trust me, most people don't want to mess with that crap). So, out of the box, this thing kicks butt for the $$ spent! That's my humble, but fairly well researched opinion. :)

FatTuesday
