Let's be honest, gaming chairs in all flavors of "enhancement" from vibration to sound to cup holders and beyond are quickly becoming a dime a dozen -- but the ButtKicker not only takes a different approach to vibration enhancement than other options but also wins the "most notable name" award in the arena. For one thing, it's not a chair -- it's a device you can install on any office chair to add vibration experience to not just gaming but anything producing sound on your computer including music and other media players. There are also two other versions of the device for use in home theater and auto installations (you can retrofit pretty much any old Lazy-boy in your living room). At $99 the gaming-focused version of the ButtKicker is cheaper than a lot of all-in-one gaming chair solutions as well. Oh, and how does the thing feel? Let's just say it tickled us in many nuanced ways.

This paired with the Wii Shaft offer the ultimate gaming experience!
Motoken @ Jan 9th 2008 11:57PM
not bad, not bad. cheap powerful vibrations coming from a chair you already own! BRILLIANT!
T-Bone @ Jan 9th 2008 11:59PM
This sounds familiar. I remember seeing something like this in a catalog. It basically produced frequencies below what subs can handle to add a physical "oomph" to explosions and such.
will clifton @ Jan 10th 2008 12:12AM
uhh, my cuz got one of these things installed about 5 years ago. installed it under the wooden floor. pretty kick ass. sounded slightly better than a n impala with a subwoofer in the ghetto
heywindsor @ Jan 10th 2008 11:06AM
This has been used by drummers for at least a couple of years. The low frequencies from the monitor channel gets fed to the Buttkicker so the drummer feels the low tones instead of hearing them. Drummers love them.
Riffix @ Jan 10th 2008 12:35AM
Why is this coming up now? That product has been around for at least 2 years. I bought one for my dad for his birthday last year and he loves it. I tried it out a few times in BF1942 and it is pretty intense when you hop into a tank or something and it feels like you are in one with all the vibration and the explosions. I highly recommend the product, especially because it just fits on pretty much any office chair you might be using. The only thing you have to worry about is that your chair now has a cord running to it but it has a quick-disconnect in case that is an issue for you.
Paul @ Jan 10th 2008 12:38AM
I had something exactly like this around 10 years ago except it was built into a pad you were supposed to place behind your lower back when sitting in a chair or on the couch.

Shouldn't the ButtKicker be some sort of device that literally kicks your butt when you lose at a game, therefore forcing to become better?
Elle @ Jan 10th 2008 3:50AM
We've got the one that goes on the floor for the couch. Awesome. Works great for movies too.
motorer @ Jan 10th 2008 4:05AM
the main purpose of the butt-kicker is to replace the subwoofer, not give force feedback. These have been around for quite a while. Drummers will sometimes attach one to their throne to feel the bass and kick at live shows.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Buttkicker-Concert-Sonic-Shaker?sku=482251
It's connected by an *audio* cable and turns the lower frequencies into energy to power the motor.
Justin @ Jan 10th 2008 10:55AM
Your wrong about it replacing the sub. It augments the sub. This device is called a tactile transducer and has been around a while. You can feel it even at low volume levels unlike a sub.
Google is your friend.

Ooh la la - that would look good in hot pink...
Technex @ Jan 10th 2008 7:07AM
I would love one of these to pair with my Audio Technica a900's.... I've been looking to buy one but all are to expensive from here in the UK.
$99?!? I would buy it now! /Sigh

If I want my chair to vibrate, all I have to do is eat a can of Bush's baked beans.

Tooooo GAY
John @ Jan 10th 2008 10:28AM
But not as gay as your name.
Jon Graft @ Jan 10th 2008 9:23AM
Will this work with a 7.1 surround sound system? Could I buy 3 Butt Kickers for all three of my chairs and still have the subwoofer connected as well? If so, sign me up!!!
Justin @ Jan 10th 2008 10:57AM
Yes you could, but you should check out other tactile transducers (there are many manufacturers including Buttkicker) if you want to use them on normal (not computer) chairs or couches.

Yes, if you get the LFE Kit it is 1,500 watts and can support 4 ButtKickers.

i really love product i have a huge computer / entertainment system and the buttkicker gives it way more quality that my 2 sub-woofers cant really give it
but you need both sub and butt to complete the sound im talking about
