Check it, Willcom faithful. Two new candybar-styled handsets have emerged for your carrier of choice, and we must say, we're pretty envious. Up first is the Kyocera WX330K (or Honey Bee, as we prefer), which checks in at 42- x 120- x 9.9-millimeters, is available in five different hues and features a two-inch QVGA display, Opera 7.2 browser, IrDA and an eye-catching Call button (of all things). Next up is the elusive X Plate, a 64-gram sophisticated toy that boasts a 1.8-inch LCD along with Java and Flash support. Plenty of pics waiting in the links below, so go on, take a peek at what America's missing out on.

What the heck is up with that first button?
Mr.Tech @ Jan 21st 2008 3:00PM
It's big and ugly.
oZone @ Jan 21st 2008 3:32PM
It's the Send/Answer button in the shape of an unhooked phone. Further to the right, the End/Decline button in the shape of a phone on its base.

use an OLED display, or I won't buy it.

nate @ Jan 21st 2008 4:16PM

bdkennedy1 @ Jan 21st 2008 4:23PM
Yeah, I hope this is a sarcastic post. That phone is U G L Y. It looks like Tiger or Coleco made it in the 80's.

Consider the market
(Old or poor)
it is actually quite attracting.
The only problem would be the price,
colour screen is too expensive(for PHS users)
fuzzy @ Jan 21st 2008 4:57PM
Ugly? I love the style. It's like the Pantone phones.
How is the unlock scene in JP? Provided they are quad-band 3G, you can use them over here if you can unlock them and put in your own SIM. I could use my phone (ATT Tilt) in JP roaming on NTT DoCoMo, but if I put my girlfriend's sim in my phone, the network/sim was locked. So going there might be hard, but coming back might work provided you could unlock the phone.
I like Wilcom's candybar+slider Windows Mobile phone.
tim marshall @ Jan 21st 2008 6:04PM
Willcom is PHS system that is basically only used in Japan and China
So dont think anyone will be unlocking them...
Main benefits of PHS - no interference with pacemakers etc as alot less radiation than GSM 2) Base stations cheap and lots of them 3) Old tech = low cost, 3000 yen for all you can talk and mail (to the same carrier of course).
This makes the phones really popular for lovers and students
The end
Jamar @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:50AM
Same in China- also the benefit of PHS in China is that you get a landline number and landline rates as opposed to a mobile number and the associated rates.
Most PHS phones in China are crap (B/W screen) so people in China bring in Willcom phones and reprogram them for local use.

Still waiting for someone to shout, "iPhone knock-off!" They seem to scream that at everything nowadays. Including my waffles. o_O
