If there's one thing better on the original DS it's the:

1) size of the dpad (and its clicky feel, as opposed to the more painful dpad in the Lite, with mashy feel)
2) better (rounded, less squared-off) shoulder buttons.

On the DS Lite they made the dpad mashy and reduced its size. L and R shoulder buttons on the Lite were also squared off compared to the original. Stylus and screen was improved greatly, so perhaps the stylus is what you are referring to.
