Walking Chair tests your dedication to laziness, extravagance
Anyone can go into Office Depot and pick up a rolling desk seat for fifty bucks, but it takes a truly lazy individual to shell out almost $22,000 for a chair that very slowly "walks" you into proper working position. Actually, we doubt that the commercially-available Walking Chair from Vienna-based design studio Walking Things is really built for sitting; it's more likely meant as a showpiece for the ridiculous amount of disposable income you're pulling in. Each minimalist eight-legged unit is hand-assembled upon order, meaning that you'll need to wait at least six weeks to show your friends how very little €15,000 ($21,906) mean to you.[Via Slashgear]

Stairs(!)
Byzil Mystwing @ Jan 25th 2008 9:49AM
Did anyone else see that video on their site where the chair walks up to a normal one then very dramatically shoves it down some stairs? lol
Peter D. Lai @ Jan 25th 2008 11:08AM
please dont sit on Walking-Chairs, do take seat on other seats
STUD HUNK @ Jan 25th 2008 9:59AM
Itsn't there a possibility that this chair as well as the rolling seat could be helpful to those who are handicapped.
Perhaps the essence of this technology - once developed for mainstream use - will lead to such solutions
Corwin @ Jan 25th 2008 2:42PM
We choose not to use our technological powers for good... I think it's our instinctual adherence to natural selection...

Um, maby someone should tip them in on a little government secret, wheelchairs. Would be funny as hell to show off to a friend as your chair walks from the kitchen to the TV.

lol, can somebody please send this idiot the blue prints for a wheel?
Brian @ Jan 25th 2008 10:19AM
Looks like a step backwards from a wheelchair. I bet this thing moves pretty quick. Maybe ten minutes to walk yourself to the fridge to get a beer.
Blacknimbus @ Jan 25th 2008 10:34AM
Yes, but is it art?

Only if it comes with a man-servent named Djambi!

it looks like one of those salad bar containers with metal poles sticking out of it.
aeo @ Jan 25th 2008 10:51AM
Ha! Walking Things is a bit delusional to think anybody sees this and wants to spend 22G on it much less buy it at all. We should start and "American Idol" for corporations. These guys would be on the first loser reel.
Don @ Jan 25th 2008 11:53AM
There was an "American Idol" for inventors... Looks like they are casting for Season 2 even...

A wife doesn't cost $22,000.... I think that's a better solution.
... wait, nevermind. The chair's much cheaper.

In Borat's voice "There is a chair.....it is a walking....la la la....."
Sirocco @ Jan 25th 2008 7:47PM
If a walking chair is lazy, what is a chair that just sits there?
John @ Jan 26th 2008 12:24AM
Add some 6 foot legs to that and it's a great intimidator. Imagine a boss chewing someone out from a super tall chair that's slowly creeping up on you. Fuck me, that's deranged.
Jarhead2012 @ Jan 27th 2008 11:30AM
But where is the screen? I was under the impression that it played Doom.
