HTC TouchFLO 2 "Manila" leaks out, are you brave enough to install it?
Alright, HTC Touch owners -- who's going to take the hit and install this leaked build of TouchFLO 2.0 that's been spreading around under the codename Manila? From the screenshots, it looks like it does a better job of taking over from the standard WinMo interface, but it still retains the reskinned-launcher relationship with the OS that we find slightly awkward. Still, we're curious -- who's got the stones to give it a shot?

I've got the stones, but not the Touch :/
aren't you the ones supposed to be being paid to do stuff like that?
this only works with VGA devices, unless you get the QVGA stuff from xda-developers.
btw, its slow as hell, but still good looking.
its like the winmo 6.1 interface, but upside down.
"...it still retains the reskinned-launcher relationship with the OS that we find slightly awkward."
well put. having a launcher is nice, but when will a full-fledged interface replace the lame winmo underpinnings? I'd buy a touch if i didn't have to constantly interact with the stylus-requiring, in-cohesive, lame-ass winmo that sits just under the surface.
I can confirm it actually is limited to VGA. QVGA makes sense from xda.. but I didn't see the speed issues that previous posters have. I'm actually not that impressed with the looks.. but winmo was something that moved the GUI in the right direction.
I'll be anxious to see what comes next and if it will also be limited to VGA. But what the hey..
If it's VGA only, why is it for the HTC Touch?
I've got a touch... but will this really work? I about to do a full reset, anyway.
i'll wait until more people report back before i brave it...
I just did a hard reset, downloaded the file, and it's installing, now...
I just got my touch on Sunday, but don't really feel like installing this and potentially having to reset my phone after getting all my apps I've dl'ed and installed running smoothly. I too will wait for a few others to test it out, maybe with a video to accompany? ;)
After all is said and done
You've never walked, you've never run,
You're a winner!
Won't this Manila slow down its meek 201 MHz processor?
I have a two-part question -
First, what the hell is it, and second, what does it do?
Just sign me,
Out of touch with technology.
The color matches with the new HTC theme.
As with any software that is not final, it is not bug free and not for everybody. The downloadsquad crew had this to say:
"Some folks at the XDA-Developers forum have managed to get the application, which bears the codename Manila, up and running. And while it's certainly pretty to look at, it's reportedly quite sluggish. In fact, once you have it up and running, you'll be lucky if you can get your PDA or phone to do much of anything. So we certainly wouldn't recommend installing Manila, at least not until someone leaks a faster version."
Yo someone make a video of testing it out and put it on youtube.

Even though I've download the 5mb file into the systems internal memory, the software is taking a long while to install.
9:23pm
Install has completed
9:24pm
Finished installing, home screen now says: Please tap here to start HTC Home.
Once tapped, the device displays: HTC Home is termianted unexpectedly, please tap here to start HTC Home.

Still searching for the answer on how to get this thing working
10:09pm
Found two dlls to install in my windows directory, I can now succesfully launch the program.
It doesn'twork properly, it runs at .94fps, w/ 63.89mb of available ram.
It only displays a ticking number... one number, that flips like old clocks... you know what I mean :p
shit is def in an alpha stage and is slow as balls...unless we basically rewrite the code or HTC gets us hardware graphic acceleration drivers *cough cough*
Still very, very Beta
Beta? No, no, no... this was not purposefully released, by HTC, to the public.
This is an alpha.
No no no... HTC doesn't acknowledge that this even exists -- no way they'll claim to have released it as alpha or beta...

Here's a video by MSMobiles of the UI. Very pretty, but excruciatingly slow. Its worth a look even if you are not interested in WM, as HTC will likely use a similar interface in their Android Google phone.
Will this be released as a free update for the current HTC Touch?
Will it work with the current HTC Touch?
I'm clueless, help me out.
My guess is that the TouchFlo 2 is made for the Touch Cruise which has VGA resolution, not for the regullar Touch or the Touch Dual. About the high demands of this os, the Cruise is packed with a 400MHz processor and 128MB DDR so no worries there.
Someone at xda-dev resized the images and got it working at 12-13 fps. It won't start until you've copied libGLES_CM.dll and dwmapi.dll in the HTC directory. This is alpha since there is still the fps counter. Probably in development for their new devices with Nvidia GoForce or similar graphics accelerators. If HTC did that this would finally become more popular and maybe even standard. Maybe this is even for WM 7, software development takes a long time!b
BTW, the Touch Cruise doesn't have VGA.
So maybe this would be an example of a "future" product that would support hardware acceleration with proper "drivers" for the "hardware" in the device.
Meanwhile Tilt owners are "screwed".
They've loaded it up on a phone, but it needs a faster processor:
http://www.pmptoday.com/2008/02/01/touchflo-successor-htc-manila-outed/
Is that less than 1fps!?
Oh, and why re-do WinCE interface without getting rid of abused/confusing/useless left/right button-o-menus?
Is Windows Mobile 6.1 out? And has anyone installed it?
Also, I often have to re-enter my contacts in the TouchFlo's Touch Cube speed dial. Does anyone else have this problem? It's annoying.
VGA exclusive, needs a faster processor/memory... well, that makes sense... now.
