We were just wondering something. Now that you've adapted to the brave new world presented by the possibility of a
$44.6 Billion Microsoft acquisition of Yahoo!, what do you call the new entity? You've already thrown out a few ideas in the comments so let's put it to a vote.

If They are integrating Windows Live with Yahoo messenger so I can view Xbox360 contacts/messages when I log into Yahoo, IM IN !
But, Yahoo already has 360 http://360.yahoo.com/
Will they change the name?

Baz @ Feb 1st 2008 8:18AM
Or, as Microsoft would have it, Yahoo!, who?
Because we all remember Tim Patterson, his company Seattle Computer Products and their little 'contribution' to Microsoft called MDOS...

Yahoo is dead, microsoft is just sucking them up to ensure they cant return as a zombie plague upon them.

I'd vote for Yaboo!, but there's no option for that.
GhostDoggy @ Feb 1st 2008 8:24AM
I do not see Yahoo being worth one tenth the stated value. Seems an absurd way to throw money away, IMO.

No... you will have to wait 4 years for that service pack 2 edition
MSN MarketShareMonopoly-soft Live! Ultimate Edition beta 1 makes more sense.
XiozTzu @ Feb 1st 2008 8:25AM
This is great, this purchase should distract MS enough that it will finally loose its monopoly position. I predict a self imposed breakup of MS sometime in the next 5 years and a write off of most of their goodwill.
GO MS!
R0B3RT @ Feb 1st 2008 8:26AM
Yacrosoft. Cause you used it, it pisses you to the point of stress induced vomiting...... They both are crappy at times.....

Actually, not a bad PR move on Microsoft's part since Yahoo was announcing layoffs (especially in this recession). Microsoft buys Yahoo and doesn't lay anyone off. Looks good and works out all around.
Paris @ Feb 1st 2008 8:44AM
Key word here is "acquisition".

Yahoo + Microsoft = Yahsoft
Jeff Jones @ Feb 1st 2008 8:49AM
I think when Microsoft decided that they needed to focus on advertising revenue instead of their primary strengths (software), they started to fail. Now they have become a jack of all trades and a master of none.
But in the world of the internet, people go the master of whatever field they need, not the mediocre option.
Zack Taylor @ Feb 1st 2008 8:50AM
pure unadulterated hate?
Kizorblade @ Feb 1st 2008 8:57AM
Yacrosoft for the win.
Armin Talic @ Feb 1st 2008 9:00AM
How about calling it Yahoo!. You don't offer to pay $44.6 billion for a company and then change its name.
That would be like McDonalds being purchased by WalMart and being called McMart.
I for one hope that this goes through. Microsoft may not be your best pal when It comes to certain things. But they are far and above the most capable company on the market.
I think its time to read up on how to buy shares. Many many shares.

I think they shouldn't toss the Yahoo brand. I think Yahoo is a stronger and more recognized name when it comes to search and instant messengers. I think some things should be remain branded "Yahoo".
I also hope Microsoft doesn't mess things up when the companies merge. I personally think MyYahoo is better than MyMSN. I also think Yahoo's online map program is better than Google's. If Microsoft has a map program, then I have never heard of it.
michael @ Feb 2nd 2008 2:54PM
Well this shows you haven't even looked at Microsoft's latest stuff, like Windows Live.
I admit, MSN is practically dead. I'm doing a review on start pages, iGoogle, MyYahoo!, MyMSN, and MyMSN has to be the WORST start page ever.
But I definitely do not think it was cool for you to not even acknowledge Live Maps, and assume it's the worst. Live Maps has got to be the best, or one of the best mapping sites by features. Live Maps does full-color 3D cities, close up birds-eye-view of areas by helicopter, first with full traffic data, better looking road maps, 3D tours of your collection, 3D in your browser, among other things.
Just because you haven't used it, isn't fair to make an assumption that it's bad.

What's a MicroHoo?
A smaller version of a Hoo.
thepolytheist @ Feb 1st 2008 9:10AM
I don't think any of those really work. It needs to stay as Microsoft, but the o's should be replaced with smiley faces. I'm pretty sure that will be appropriately terrifying.
Eckofish @ Feb 1st 2008 9:12AM
Watch Google come in with a counter offer of 2 doughnuts and a custard pie.
I heard somewhere that apple had filed a patent for the process involved in looking for and finding information on the internet.
So might as well invest in the next 'find engine' since the 'search engine' is clearly dead.
Topslakr @ Feb 1st 2008 9:14AM
I would call it the death of Zimbra... The excellent email/collaboration server that Yahoo! bought last year...
