So I've decided to wait until May, and then I'll buy it for my birthday. There's also a touchscreen mod for the eeePC, and Compiz works on it (quite smoothly too, at least from the youtube vids) and I think it would be amazing to be able to have it rotate the cube with a finger swipe across the touchscreen, if that were possible. The mod is pretty cost effective too, I saw a figure of about $60 which isn't that bad, although of course you have to be able to do it which at this time I am not, but hope to be eventually. The only drawback to the eeePC touchscreen mod is that you still don't get the swiveling screen so it might be hard to actually write on it, but I'm sure someone will work out a mod for that too.

iofthestorm

Comments on HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet goes on sale

I don't quite understand how notebooks or tablet PCs are effective for note taking... I was horribly disorganized with my many sheets of loose leaf paper, and slide handouts and various notebooks. But with my Asus R1F, I am suddenly extremely organized. Kudos to Microsoft for OneNote and the pen integration of Powerpoint for taking notes right on the professor's slides. I wasted $1200 and two weeks of my life trying to make it work. The turion is incredibly slow, the touch membrane makes the screen very grainy, it had many BSOD errors even after a full reformat it had something to do with the display drivers/software. You have to practically push the pen through the screen to make anything show up, and even after that it's pretty inaccurate. It also has terrible battery life with the 8-cell unit. Definitely don't buy, get something like a lenovo. I took the plunge and got a MacBook for a little bit more and haven't looked back. The passive digitizer shuts off when the pen comes into close proximity of the screen, thus preventing your hand from activating the touch function. Pretty clever.

Doug

Comments on HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet goes on sale

I'd never buy a HP product! But to be honest, for the half hour I spent playing with the 1305, I thought it was pretty cool. The speakers were excellent, the screen clarity was great and it was packed with features. I need something small I can open up on a plane and that doesn't weigh a ton. The "tablet" feature was gravy. If you want a real tablet PC, drop another grand on a Fujitsu, etc. I'm the target market for the tx2000z and looks just about right for me.

Here's a link to the review: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4204&review=HP+Pavilion+tx2000z

Bill

Comments on HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet goes on sale

Not unless it wipes my a$$,

rfojo88

Comments on HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet goes on sale

anyone things it is ugly?

jd

Comments on HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet goes on sale

I didn't know these were new. I thought it was a screaming deal at $950 w/tax and s/h. The CPU is a little weak, but for what the machine is intended, it should be OK. No Crysis! As far as I know, it shows many improvements over the TX1000. Mainly the active digitizer, which makes the pointer device much accurate, thus making the TX2000 a true tablet PC rather than an Entertainment PC like the TX1000. Many users also report that the battery life of TX2000 was greatly improved over the TX1000. I personally think that it's a great value consider it's one of the cheapest true tablet PC out there with pretty good price/performance ratio compares to other tablet PC.
I can't wait to see this thing in action

BaBa

Comments on HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet goes on sale

Oh man.
