Apple store is down: 16GB iPhone imminent?
Listen up pilgrims. It's Apple's favorite product launch day -- Tuesday -- and we're once again sitting on a pile of rumors. So what's it going to be? A 16GB bump to the iPhone, new MacBook Pros running Intel's latest mobile Penryn processor with enhanced multi-touch touchpad, or maybe a few more countries added to the iPhone rollout in Europe? Who knows. Really, anyone know?

Who cares. Really, anyone care?
carlos @ Feb 5th 2008 6:30AM
I care. If you don't you should find another article to post on.
Yours Smugly @ Feb 5th 2008 6:37AM
I care, too. Now go whining to the nearest Zune thread.
casey @ Feb 6th 2008 12:52AM
I care to dammit if you don't care then get out of here i hope the new mac book pro's come out because I've been waiting for along time and i just want to know how they have changed
Shmapple @ Feb 5th 2008 6:46AM
Apple fanboys care
Eckofish @ Feb 5th 2008 6:52AM
I would care more if they whipped 3G out of their hat. Not going to happen. But now you can squeeze even more episodes of lost onto your iPhone
David Vogt @ Feb 5th 2008 6:55AM
Nope.
Chris Aubeck @ Feb 5th 2008 7:12AM
So excited I had to F5 my pants.
producerism @ Feb 5th 2008 7:15AM
wow, 2 iphone articles in 2 hours. i can imagine the engadget fanboy hammering refresh at the apple store 24 hours a day, hitting the big alert button whenever it goes down.
Ryan Trevisol @ Feb 5th 2008 7:33AM
This would piss me off. Not two months after I pop for it. Not that I would have a right to get pissed off . . . Maybe I wouldn't be pissed if it costs $200 more than the 8 gig'er.
dan2600 @ Feb 5th 2008 8:17AM
You think with all these fanboys apples market share still wouldn't be so minuscule...
I've always wondered how apple gets to much news coverage when there market share is still under 10%
uh oh, now the fanboys are really gonna attack me.
Bloobie @ Feb 5th 2008 8:23AM
You care, apparently, enough to read the article and comment about.
Twitchy @ Feb 5th 2008 8:24AM
My money is not on a new iPhone, but on a hardware refresh of the iMac as it is approaching the end of it's guestimated cycle.
Luca @ Feb 5th 2008 8:42AM
16 GB added, guys!
Daza @ Feb 5th 2008 9:00AM
16GB iPhone and 32GB iPod touch.
LaZer @ Feb 5th 2008 1:28PM
I care, dammit...I care. I hope the new 16GB iPhone comes and slaps you upside the head for disrespecting it.
Josh @ Feb 5th 2008 6:27AM
New MBPs would surely get a keynote styled presentation.
Yours Smugly @ Feb 5th 2008 6:36AM
No they wouldn't, if the update were only a minor one (spec bump, new trackpad etc.).
fuzi @ Feb 5th 2008 7:32AM
that last macpro revision with a santa rosa update never got a keynote release.
Flipper @ Feb 5th 2008 6:29AM
The UK store is still up
Dan @ Feb 5th 2008 6:39AM
France and Germany are still up too, 16GB iPhone is unlikely. However, Canada is also down????
Smithers @ Feb 5th 2008 6:47AM
Canada store is down because it's hosted by the same servers that the US store is.
Eckofish @ Feb 5th 2008 6:53AM
UK Store is down as of 11:52am GMT. Just checked.
kakapo @ Feb 5th 2008 6:30AM
Australia Store is still up
xploit @ Feb 5th 2008 6:33AM
shame aus stores are still up - we'd like an iphone please apple... anytime your ready aye.
Daza @ Feb 5th 2008 7:18AM
Apple's response: any time your networks are ready.
Glen @ Feb 5th 2008 7:34AM
But they'll never be ready for the old crappy 2G connection... Telstra is the only phone network with CDMA and they're shutting that network down as its "too old and costly" which is why Apple needs to drag the iPhone into some hardware that reassembles something worthwhile
Reid @ Feb 5th 2008 1:58PM
Glen,
iPhone is not CDMA.
NiGhTmArE @ Feb 5th 2008 6:30AM
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG.
Apple store is down! Tell your friends!!!!
modafroman @ Feb 5th 2008 6:31AM
UK and Aus stores still up :\
Finlay Dobbie @ Feb 5th 2008 6:35AM
This is not news.
David Vogt @ Feb 5th 2008 7:32AM
Agreed.
Drew @ Feb 5th 2008 8:08AM
Then don't post. No one is forcing you to read and post on this.
Nick Roper @ Feb 5th 2008 6:36AM
Just been on to my mate who works at an O2 store, he confirmed that they recieved a few 16gb iPhones in this morning. £330 is the UK cost.....around £280 too much for the UK market
Mattmatt. @ Feb 5th 2008 6:37AM
Was excited, but then I realised UK store is still up. :(
AKBlade13 @ Feb 5th 2008 6:39AM
C'mon 30GB iPod Touches with MB updates all around.
A 16 GB iPhone wouldn't be bad either.
AKBlade13
pundit @ Feb 5th 2008 6:45AM
A 32GB Touch would be more realistic, since flash generally uses base 2. Well, it has to, as far as I know. 30GB would take a mix of a 16GB, 8GB, 4GB and 2GB chip to work. They won't put that many chips in a Touch. With 32GB (or a 16GB 3G iPhone in Canada) I'll consider buying a new music player/phone. Until then, no dice, Apple.
Cary @ Feb 5th 2008 6:43AM
is the iphone coming to middle east!!
plz plz plz
w00t @ Feb 5th 2008 7:06AM
It's already there!
Plenty of places you can still get a grey market unlocked iPhone, but be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it... Not unlike the official contracts really :)
ARealOG @ Feb 5th 2008 6:44AM
Canadian store is down. Hopefully good news for us.
Anthony Scott @ Feb 5th 2008 6:46AM
Well the UK store isn't down and we have the iPhone, so I doubt it's anything iPhone related. Maintenance anyone?
Jason @ Feb 5th 2008 6:46AM
Only matters if it is a 3G 16 gig iPhone. Otherwise it's just one more ploy to get everyone to buy iPhones right before they release the 3G version so that everyone will want to rebuy them.
sonyxxx @ Feb 5th 2008 6:47AM
in romania in the newspapers it says that orange is gettin ready to put iphone on sale
Mobius_1 @ Feb 5th 2008 6:51AM
Engadget, I propose a meter on the sides that monitors the status of Apple Store, XBox Live etc that often dominate the news but really is not really news
amby @ Feb 5th 2008 8:21AM
Quite a good idea.
It could even get a permanent comment thread (purging comments older than 30 days or something). Apple Store down news really annoy me and ruling out all Apple news would not be my thing.
So it's either this idea or if I take the "then don't read it" fanboy advise, then the end of Engadget reading. (I liked Gizmodo better, but they post even more iPhone crap*.)
*crap = non-news, like a new PS picture of anything iPhone
snife @ Feb 5th 2008 6:52AM
I bought an 8GB iPhone almost 5 months ago and they dare release a 16GB iPhone now - can I sue Apple......oh wait......I don't stay in the US so no.
w00t @ Feb 5th 2008 7:08AM
Yes, how dare they improve their product!?
Rich @ Feb 5th 2008 6:51AM
Blimey, the Apple store goes down more regularly than their stock price.
Maze1023 @ Feb 5th 2008 6:57AM
Ok. i just bought the iphone a week ago. if apple comes out with this new 16gb iphone im just gonna have to return my 8gb iphone. i really dont care if they charge me 40 bucks for returning the used iphone...twice the memory is well worth it.
hopefully they lower the price of the 8gb iphone and keep the price of 399.99 for the 16gb iphone...i'd like that :)
Matt B @ Feb 5th 2008 6:54AM
The UK store did go down for a short while this morning but came up and I cant see any difference. I did notice that the iPhone is now referred to as the iPhone 8GB rather than just the iPhone but cant remember if thats the way its always been?
