Wii Twilight hack could enable homebrew booting from SD cards
Make no mistake, Nintendo's Wii has been hacked to pieces, but there's nothing like an all new method that keeps the soldering iron residing in the utility drawer to get us all hot and bothered. Unfortunately, what you can see in the video waiting after the jump is only a proof of concept at the moment, but it does show that Twilight Princess can be exploited and homebrew code can be booted directly from an SD card. Also of note, certain versions of the game -- most notably, RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA -- have reportedly been found to not play nice with the aforementioned hack, but hey, it's a start. Click on through!

I have a launch day TP game and Wii I haven't touched much. Hopefully a Wii version of XBMC will come, along with emulators. It will be epic.

Is it just me, or does that soundtrack hark back to the days of Commodore 64... err... modified games?

I got my wii on the first day it came out, then right after christmas I got a new HDTV and haven't touched my Wii sence. (Other than those drunken nights I can't remember)

BRAWL. I would just die if they could get Super Smash Bros. Brawl to me before March 9th.

Get a chip and import that Japanese version, which is out.

I'd rather not mod my Wii for fear that a firmware upgrade would render it useless. I know that Brawl is out in Japan, it looks so good! I've been following news on that game for over a year. I cant wait!

thephotoman @ Feb 12th 2008 3:07PM
Awesome! I can't wait to have Linux running on my Wii.
Marrvia @ Feb 12th 2008 3:34PM
Screw Linux and Emulators for wii, I want a HDD Loader, dammit!
Wiggles @ Apr 21st 2008 1:30AM
And a HDD too presumably.
CB @ Feb 25th 2008 6:14PM
That's still pretty sweet though.
paintba||er @ Jul 22nd 2009 8:33AM
Sweet. Now maybe I'll have a reason to boot my Wii. I would love to have Linux or FreeBSD on it.
