Apple runs into all sorts of problems because they *are* starting with something entirely new -- cut and paste, anyone? -- but they got away with it *because* they entered the market brand new. There's millions of existing S60 users and thousands of vendors out there. They should turn that upside down with a new product just because it ain't flashy compared to a phone that hasn't had a full year to prove itself as more than just a fad?

The thing needs fixing, not dumping. I have.

I'm arguing the business case for dropping everything to chase after the iPhone when it's still evolving -- An SDK is only now appearing, still no cut-and-paste, no easy BCC fields, etc.

It's a phenomenon in the US, where -- surprise -- Nokia has the least presence. But sales have been low in Europe and ROW where Nokia reigns, and it is not getting the same blown-away reviews in the UK tech sources I read. Look outside the US and you'll see the big picture when it comes to Apple.

Here's the crux: the rest of the world has loads of mobile services, high and low, from VOIP to QR codes to e-payments to keyless entry systems, that people actually use.

The iPhone is designed extremely well to work within the limitations of our archaic mobile providers, but elsewhere it is seen as low-featured considering it's price-tag, and is saddled with poor plans due to Apple's hands in contract revenue.
http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0801briefly.html

Yes, it's got a great UI, but honestly -- the rest of the world has higher standards for mobiles than we in the States. Apple is just getting started in a global market that Nokia has a 40% market share of.
