You might remember that little BenQ MID prototype which was doing the rounds at
IDF and
CES. Well, it looks like the folks at HQ have decided to get all official with the newly-repainted gadget -- creatively dubbed the BenQ Mobile Internet Device -- during another three letter party,
MWC. According to the press release, the unit boasts a 4.8-inch touchscreen, 0.3-megapixel webcam, and "high-speed mobile internet access." Interestingly, the company appears to be aiming for some fancy-shmancy gesture input, like sliding finger movements and the ability to shake the device to minimize windows -- a feature which should notably increase the numbers of these which get thrown across a room. BenQ still hasn't given any release date or expected price on the Menlow-based device, so don't start any breath-holding competitions just yet. There's one more press image after the break, if you haven't seen enough (and we suspect you haven't).

I hope they mean a good, firm shake. Otherwise, This might win a place in the top 10 worst design ideas. Imagine driving on a bumpy road etc... Wtf, my windows are going crazy!
Sounds a lot like the iPhone interface, with the finger sliding etc. Is it multitouch?

BUT...Can it play Quake 3?

This is old tech. I had a device like this when I was a kid. You'd shake it and it would clear the screen. It was called an Etch-A-Sketch.

Welcome to the New World. Now Etch-A-Sketch is making a fortune licensing their E-A-S Interface technology to these new players.

Thats cool but they need to make these things affordable if they want to sell. Anyone agree?

MID, CES, MWC, IDF. You should consider using more acronyms. This article was almost comprehensible. Who would want that ?
I searched through your website and I was relieved to see there was no easy way to decipher these names.
And please, do not ever consider adding a glossary, I would hate reading a blog that everybody can understand.
