It's confirmed that the Cloudbook did in fact ship out to consumers on the 15th. I can prove it with the UPS tracking number I got for the one I'm expecting. Hello, this is 1980 calling. We want our designs back.

If you're gonna make a 7" machine, make it 7 inches wide, for crying out loud, with a borderless display. How much extra would it cost to replace those fugly hinges with a swivel, ala a tablet, and put a couple of buttons on the display? 5 bucks? 5 bucks extra and a software tweak to re-orient the display, and you've got a "free" book reader thrown in. Don't even get me started on where they appear to have put the mouse.

I think Everex/Packard Bell must have employed whoever was designing Zenith gear.

I'm still eagerly waiting for a 7" to 10" machine with a decent resolution, plenty of options for adding (or including) bluetooth, wifi, hspa, touch, THAT ISN'T FUGLY. Lol... I guess my post was a bit arrogant?

Oh, I know what I'm missing... what I'm missing is a decent 7" machine for my stable... I didn't say I wouldn't buy one, I said neither the Eee nor the Everex isn't fugly...

Frankly speaking, I'd have an Eee by now if I wasn't in Africa, most likely hacked with at least a USB hub, HSPA & bluetooth inside. Don't know I'd go to the extent of hacking touch into the display...

As for what I'm using now - an old HP iPaq, a Nokia N95, and a Toshiba Satellite 17".

If I had a couple of grand I'd go for the 8.9" lifebook, but I'd much prefer an Eee (currently the best option imho, for a *companion* to your main pc).

Take the Eee, add a gobi chipped mobile card (hsdpa and evdo on one chip), change the screen to a swivel that I can read books and magazines on in portrait, and I'd be happy. Make it a touch and throw in bluetooth. The icing on the cake would be a borderless display (and at least 1024x768)...

One of the main reasons I avoided the Eee, was to wait and see what happened. It's certainly shook things up, Everex of all people first to jump on the bandwagon, but I am sure we will see a lot more activity in this area, giving the expensive 10-12" machines and umpc's a run for their money. I wouldn't be surprised to see a machine not unlike I've described in the $750-$1000 price range (which is what a heavily modded Eee would end up costing anyway) soon.

Bob

Comments on Everex's Cloudbook delayed again, again

As far as I know, the latest gOS is still very buggy.
