The Gears of War Nerf Lancer modification scares a locust horde of parents
If you haven't seen it by now, behold, the Gears of War, Nerf Lancer modification. Forsaken_angel24's genius is rooted in the combination of a regular Nerf Longshot and toy chainsaw. Neither of which would cause the average Wal-mart parent cause for concern. Combined, they take on the form of this foreboding assault rifle with working chainsaw bayonet, LED lighting and sound effects... which shoots squishy balls at little girls. Full instructions for modders are posted over at the Nerfhaven forums. We've added a video after the break -- not so much a how-to as a loving tribute to man's god-given right to war.

i know it was used in the game commercial but worst music choise ever
(for the commercial as well)
I loved that commercial, the contrast between the music and the action created a great atmosphere.
I second that wrabbit; I loved the music choice. I actually downloaded the commercial in HD just because I loved the contrast between the game and the music so much.
no words can describe the awesomeness of this.
Only never having to see your avatar again would equal its awesomeness.
is it so bad?
Sadly Yes, it is!
:3
says the guy with the pokemon avatar..
Who has a Pokemon avatar? I don't see any.
Insulting prinnies... not cool, dood.
"no words can describe the awesomeness of this"
Except those words...
so dramatic
whoops, wrong comment to reply to, my bad.
@Tom Oliver:
I think you should be given an award for highest number of Low Ranked comments in history of Engadget!!
the part at the end where he's taking out the little kid is awesome!

Why aren't more web videos DIVX??? The quality of that video is so much better than the typical flash video, and better yet, you can make it full screen without slowing down your pc. And the frame rate doesn't slow down. Who would have thunk?
Amen to that. AND it's not blocked at work =)
Because it's an add-on that not everyone has. A native flash video is also more work friendly.
Because, as most of us who actually build websites will tell you, DIVX doesn't give you the number of options that Flash does.
Oh, and when you talk about how crap the quality is you should really talk to the person who encoded the video as if you know what you're doing and do tests you can get pretty decent quality with a low file size. Maybe not as great as DIVX but then again you lose out on all the added options Flash has for presenting said file.
@Joey- This is why not everyone uses divx webplayer. From their Terms of Use that you agreed to. :"During the installation process and through use of the software covered hereunder, we may collect non-personally identifiable information, as well as personally-identifiable information, all as set forth in our Privacy Policy"
Not being sarcastic here, what added options does Flash give you? I understand the argument that not everybody has the Divx plugin installed, but installing it is no more difficult than installing Flash. But that is definitely a concern. But how is Flash easier otherwise? And how is it more work friendly?
@Joey Geraci
Unfortunately, some of us work in draconian (government) environments where IE plugins (HELLZ NO you can't have Firefox) are controlled by central administration. Flash is considered common and safe enough that the plugin is installed as a standard. Divx is not...
I just installed the divx plugin, did any one actually read the legal agreement? It actually looked like it was written by a human!
Because DivX sucks.
And it takes a long time to load. And it causes problems.
For non-DIVX:

DorianGray, you got a point there.
As far as DivX "sucking" or taking a while to load, I don't know what you are talking about. It loaded in about the same time as most youtube videos I visit (when they decide to load, that is), and the quality was far better than any youtube video I have ever seen.
TimeRider, what problems do you speak of, other than workplaces that don't allow non-Flash plugins?
I did not want to install the plugin, because in the license agreement it said "we may collect both information that are not personally identifiable and information that IS personally identifiable." That's very weird if you just want to watch some videos. Sounds like spyware in the broadest sense.
Give me a fucking break. That is almost, word for word, the exact wording in almost every EULA on the planet. And calling it "spyware". You have got to be kidding.
Pretty cool mod. I'd be careful waving it around in public though, lest you end up looking down the wrong end of a SWAT sniper rifle.
Awesome mod!
That's outstanding!
OLD. Joystiq and X3F already covered this weeks ago.
Thats great but not all of us read those sites, so this is new to us. I mean engadget couldn't postpone their overwhelming HD-DVD death coverage long enough to put some thing like this up :)
...internet commenter business meeting video=you
Well, damn. If only the rest of the world could be as up to date on their Nerf-mods as you are.
Welcome to last year.
Good god, that needs to hang above my fireplace...
Wow, welcome to a month ago. http://kotaku.com/346858/the-nerf-gun-lancer-mod
haha thats pretty cool, maybe I'll build one for my little brother if I can find all the parts. (He loves that game, I think its meh, but I'm a nice guy)
Vid is OK. mod is cool as hell. I just wish he took his time painting it. Some patches are just ram and disgusting.
Is there a 'Games for Windows' version which selectively fails to work for 9/10ths of people who try to use it?
The only reason for that is 9 out of 10 people don't know how to read system requirements. Another reason is that 9 out of 10 people don't know that their graphics card cant handle dx10 and they don't know how to make it so their dx9 can handle the game. If you know anything about computers you should be able to get the game to run easily. If you are a stupid idiot that knows nothing about computers like most people, good luck.
its beautiful
That is awesome! Now we just need a real one.
P.S. Is there a youtube vid of this? The shitty DixV player doesn't load.
The music is perfect.
"I find it kind of funny. I find it kind of sad."
That about sums this one up.
ME....WANTZ
You know, I'm going to build a REAL version of this gun. I doubt I'll be able to make the chainsaw cut through anything more than plywood, but I bet if I just take an M4A1 (of course a semi auto, wouldn't want to do anything illegal would we?), add a CNC case to hold the chainsaw, and then made an electric powered chainsaw, I could get a functioning weapon out of it. No doubt it'd be completely un-battle ready, but who knows, maybe the Locust are right beneath our boots...
I'd have your babies if you did that.
