My Cowon has that too and I never use it. The only advantage I can think of, would be to get through a podcast quicker, but you write "music playback". You can transfer the file to any Bluetooth device.  You can use it with a phone to dial phone numbers and use the headphones.  You can listen to music and still answer the phone.
