Well Fed Buff: A feast of fresh fish

Well Fed Buff serves up tasty dishes to boost your HP, stats and appetite – with that special WoW twist, of course.

True confessions time: I'm a stat foods freak. My priest was one of the first in our guild to make a habit of munching on Sagefish Delight and Golden Fish Sticks, before it became the standard for raiders to show up with stacks of the stuff. I'm the same way IRL – yes, I'm that mom who turns good ol' macaroni and cheese into a stat-boosting frenzy of organic pasta and cheese, vegetables and even salmon. (And yes, the kids love it!)

So it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the last time I was flipping through my recipes in game, I recognized a familiar-sounding way to sweeten up fish for the family dinner table. If fishy-tasting fish is, well, too fishy for your taste ... if you're always up for adding more fruits and veggies to your diet ... and when it comes to cooking complicated dinners, if you'd rather be gaming ... Try the Fisherman's Feast.

Fisherman's Feast

Yield: 6 Fisherman's Feast.

Use: Restores 7,500 health over 30 seconds. Must remain seated while eating. If you spend at least 10 seconds eating, you will become well fed and gain 30 Stamina and 20 Spirit for 30 minutes.

The offline version

  • 1 cup apples, peeled and grated

  • 1/2 cup minced onion

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1/3 cup prepackaged chicken broth

  • Cooking spray

  • 4 fish fillets (cod, sole or other white fish)

Lightly spritz a small roasting pan or glass cooking pan with cooking spray. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a roomy bowl, combine the apples, onion, lemon juice, mustard, salt, pepper and thyme, and mix well. Spread one-fourth of the apple mixture evenly over length of each fillet, and roll it up like a Ho-Ho. Nestle them in the pan, seam side down. Pour the broth over the fish, cover with aluminum foil, and bake for 15 to 20 minutes (or until the fish turns white and flakes with a fork).

Off-spec strats
Try these variations to suit your taste:

  • Add up to ½ cup grated carrot to the apple mixture.

  • Substitute green onions or leeks for onions for an even gentler taste.

  • Thin salmon filets work well, too.

  • For a less sweet version that's heavier on +healing, substitute chopped frozen spinach for the apples, lemon juice and mustard.
