Second Life's Tribute Island

The British obituary, death notices, tribute and celebrity deaths website, Lasting Tribute has created an island in Second Life in conjunction with Nick Hewitt of Associated Northcliffe Digital.

Outside of the British Services memorial park, Tribute Island more resembles a theme-park of sorts -- more celebratory than somber. There are numerous small displays featuring icons or scenes, or photo opportunities for visitors.

Pay your respects to Peter Cushing with a photo with, errr 'the Moff', or to Lucille Ball with a photo on the set of the Vitameatavegamin commercial, spend a few minutes backstage at the Muppet Show, or ride the monorail around the island looking at the exhibits which range from a NASA shuttle and a Martian Walker to King Kong and the Yellow Submarine.

Most exhibits are linked back to the relevant tribute page on the Lasting Tribute website.

Some of the spelling around the island is a trifle erratic, but overall, construction is quite solid with a movie-backlot feel. The island is frequently updated with fresh or alternative content.
