We've always heard that Apple deliberately sends out misinformation to distract the rumor sites, and it looks like that may actually be true -- check out these shots of the Future Shop inventory system, listing the
upcoming MB402LL/A and MB403LL/A SKUs from Apple as being priced at CA$1149 and CA$1349, respectively. That's MacBook pricing, if we had to make a guess -- but remember that earlier
Best Buy shot that showed a box size of 17 inches square, which is way bigger than any non-Pro MacBook. So, to recap: there are definitely new Apple laptops coming soon, but we have almost no idea what kind -- based on product cycles, we'd say it's the MacBook Pro, but signs point to the MacBook as well. Confused yet? Yeah, we thought so -- but hopefully answers are coming
soon.

Futureshop is actually owned by Best Buy, so may be related. Also, I have a friend who says something about something called an iFlip being in the Best Buy system under Apple Mobile Computers, the same category that macbooks are under.
rusty771 @ Feb 25th 2008 8:25PM
the iflip is an ipod dock that plays video not a computer
foshowww @ Feb 25th 2008 8:33PM
Well yea I do know that the iFlip is a video player, but an Apple branded, ranging in price $1099.99 to $1499.99, and in the Best Buy system under mobile comupters?
miketichon @ Feb 25th 2008 8:24PM
As of 5:17 pm on Monday 2/25, the Apple online store, phone store, and order checking is down for a scheduled upgrade
Backlin @ Feb 25th 2008 8:36PM
Is that all you do all day? Go to the Apple Store?
prophet @ Feb 25th 2008 8:51PM
what? as far as i can tell, the store is still up and taking orders. i see NO updates to the store right now. im guessing any updates will be updated during the night.
austin @ Feb 25th 2008 9:27PM
prophet- they never update at night
they do it during the day so that people can read on engadget and tuaw about it.
apple wants attention and they get it.

"Applicable for PSP"?
what?
mushrooshi @ Feb 25th 2008 8:21PM
Its probably some acronym for something else.
PSP is also an acronym for "paint shop pro", which is still unrelated, but is still a acronym.
Krish the Fish @ Feb 25th 2008 8:23PM
PSPs at best buy are Product Service Plans.
I remembered this because the one on my iPod came in handy when my hard drive starting crapping out on me :(
Carl Vitullo @ Feb 25th 2008 8:25PM
oh, that would make sense.
i'd hope you could buy a service plan for a laptop.
Christina Warren @ Feb 25th 2008 8:54PM
Performance Service Plan -- Best Buy's extended warranty program -- there are various laptop PSP tiers, depending on laptop price and coverage options.
Also keep in mind that until you actually see any of the products on the shipping manifest, the SKU, description and price are subject to change. It's actually very, very common for stuff to even appear in the system and never actually show up in the store. In this case, I'm sure it will show up in the store, but the in-stock dates are estimates and not final because they don't have any on order and it doesn't look like these are going to even be on the regular trucks, but directly from the distributor.
fuzzylollipop @ Feb 25th 2008 9:30PM
actually PSP isn't an acronym as it isn't pronounced as a word. RADAR is an acronym.
IBM isn't.
Schmedly @ Feb 25th 2008 10:11PM
Don't be too hasty. That's not a hard and fast rule for acronyms. Some say it has to be a pronounceable word, some say it doesn't. Webster's in fact allows for both.
Abuzar @ Feb 25th 2008 11:15PM
Alright fine then, it's an alphabetisms.
Your mom is an acronym.
nohbudy @ Feb 25th 2008 8:21PM
What's a MacBook?
mushrooshi @ Feb 25th 2008 8:22PM
Apple's line of sucessers for the iBook and the PowerBook.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Feb 25th 2008 8:25PM
I think powerbook was a really cool name. Then again, I've never owned a mac in my life.
Chris @ Feb 25th 2008 8:27PM
whats an ibook? (note: don't actually tell me *cough* mushrooshi *cough*)
wesg @ Feb 25th 2008 8:36PM
An iBook was Apple's consumer line of notebooks.
Back in the day - which was a Wednesday, by the way - Apple used the i suffix for consumer models, and power for the pros. Personally, I liked that method better.
wesg @ Feb 25th 2008 8:37PM
Whoops, sorry Chris... I didn't read the comment fully. My bad.
Paco @ Feb 25th 2008 9:20PM
ur kidding me right?
Carl Vitullo @ Feb 25th 2008 9:20PM
a boot.
Skawt @ Feb 25th 2008 11:30PM
I always thought that a MacBook was just a piece of Scottish literature. XD
tyler @ Feb 26th 2008 12:05AM
.. i think it is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era ..
foshowww @ Feb 25th 2008 8:23PM
PSP means Performance Service Plan, meaning they can sell a service plan on the unit
Barry @ Feb 25th 2008 8:23PM
It's about time for a facelift anyway. The design hasn't changed in what, eight years? It's about as cutting edge as a New Beetle.
Andrew @ Feb 25th 2008 8:29PM
I'm completely open for a redesign of the MacBook Pro, I just find it unlikely. Nothing's really wrong with the design, so I doubt Apple will bother to change it. The MacBook on the other hand is in dire need of a facelift. Give it an aluminum case, maybe thin it up a bit more, possibly more display sizes, etc. Like a mini MacBook Pro, so to speak. They should have done that from the beginning, instead of introducing the feature-raped MacBook Air.
Barry @ Feb 25th 2008 8:42PM
If you think the MBP has a good design, it's evident that you've never had to something as trivial as upgrade the hard drive. I did. I lost count, but I recall needing to remove about two thousand microscopic screws, detach a bunch of wires, remove the bluetooth dongle, and sacrifice a chicken. This is not good design unless you consider a $2000 machine to be disposable.
This, compared to the Macbook where you remove something like one screw to swap out the drive. Lame.
Franco @ Feb 25th 2008 11:18PM
no way macbook will be aluminum since they are targeting consumer, student and education people who inherently are clumsy and rough with portable computers (or personal computer PC. PC DOES NOT mean microsoft window os. MACS are PC as well. They just use a different OS.). I think they will shift to a light and durable composite material.
note: sorry for the rant.
Kailie Quinn @ Feb 26th 2008 1:15AM
Colloquially, and until recently, the line between PCs and Apple Computers was drawn at the processor level. PC referred to anything that had an x86 processor, and a Mac was anything that had a power pc processor. Apple made the foolish performance, but smart business decision to dump the power pc chip in favour of the cheaper and more easily obtainable x86 and lately, x64 chips, which they can sell for the same price as the power pc machines, just less out of pocket for them, and potential to load multiple oses on their hardware (the only reason you aren't able to run OS X on a 'pc' is apple's licensing and driver support [read: lack thereof], but that is beside the point).
Semantically you are correct, but unfortunately, the urban dictionary is the etymologists nightmare of our time, and will continue to dictate how people speak. Those who don't think for themselves, that is.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Feb 25th 2008 8:24PM
I'm so excited, yet so very confused...
hackman @ Feb 25th 2008 10:07PM
Cubs will lose
CUBSWILLWIN @ Feb 25th 2008 10:38PM
I'm sick and tired of these stupid comments on my sports team. I bet some other people have teams they are a fan of but they truthfully suck.
ben @ Feb 25th 2008 8:25PM
Wouldn't a box for a MacBook be 2-4" bigger than the actual MacBook itself?
ben @ Feb 25th 2008 8:27PM
nvm, stupid comment.
mushrooshi @ Feb 25th 2008 8:43PM
No, I actually thought it was a great comment.
No sarcasm intended. I just suck at these kinds of posts.
gjp303 @ Feb 25th 2008 8:43PM
my mommy says that no questions are stupid! :P
J L @ Feb 25th 2008 9:17PM
That was my thought exactly.
If you look at the specs for current models, none of the macbook/pros show any dimension as being 17". Even the 17" MBP is only 15" wide.
James @ Feb 26th 2008 1:23AM
There is no such thing as stupid questions...just stupid people.
Randy @ Feb 26th 2008 9:17AM
Ok so a MBP update is coming.... do we have have to dwell on it?
Flashpoint @ Feb 25th 2008 8:28PM
I'm really suprised to see all these DPS screens from Circuit City and Best Buy because both these stores make you sign a confidentiality agreement which basically claims you are risking your job if you share confidential info with the outside world.
I worked in a BBY (store 483) and I shared info with bestbuysux (BBY had 15 DS's and 8 PSP's stolen the day prior) and the manager found out. Bitch acted out around me so I just plain old quit. I'm doing ALOT better now than that $8.50 I was pulling way back then. You should have seen the look on managements faces when I came back there in my S550 and bought some DVD's.
Big John @ Feb 25th 2008 8:36PM
OhHO! You really showed them, hotshot!
duffiecochran @ Feb 25th 2008 9:42PM
How does one go from making 8.50 an hour to driving a $100,000 car?
Infoclipper @ Feb 25th 2008 10:18PM
You become a car salesman and stop off for DVDs on the way to deliver the car to the new owner?
Dan @ Feb 25th 2008 10:18PM
hey, cap the sarcasm, buddy. I thought it was a good story.
IndiaTech @ Feb 25th 2008 10:45PM
As far as remember you park your car outside the store not inside. And if I really wanted to show off, I would have bought couple of Sony Bravias rather than couple of puny $20 DVDs.
Kailie Quinn @ Feb 26th 2008 1:21AM
I think sarcasm is appropriate here. This is certainly an example of people just not being able to escape the confines of their youthful indoctrination. For more information on this phenomenon. see: britney spears.
Ken @ Feb 26th 2008 2:30AM
Uhhhh, the posters are smart enough to cover the store number and all that. The screens are the same in all stores, so as long as they don't find the name of the poster, or see a store number (or even date and time), there is nothing they can do about it.
It could have been any of ~100,000 people (1000ish stores and 100ish staff per)...
