Hack automates Guitar Hero, for times when a fake guitar isn't fake enough
This hack is neither cheap nor easy, but if for some reason you just have to pull off a feat of Guitar Hero virtuosity but lack the necessary skill, the folks at SYSTM have now provided details on how to automate the controller so you never miss a note. At the heart of the hack is a so-called "show control system," which runs a hefty $210 but will let you program all the necessary strums and button presses with some seemingly not to difficult to use software. Of course, there's also the little matter of cracking open the guitar and wiring everything up, but we're guessing that won't be much of a problem for anyone actually still considering the hack. If that includes you, you can get the complete rundown in video form at the link below.

Please Reference South Park, Season 11 Episode 13: Guitar Queer-o for reasons why this would make you a sad, sad panda.
Jeremy K. @ Feb 26th 2008 11:23PM
I be happy it has "not to difficult" software.
Reader @ Feb 27th 2008 12:47AM
Who needs grammar when you have Guitar Hero?
Yevon @ Feb 26th 2008 11:24PM
Not only does it blend, but it shreds too.
Nathan @ Feb 26th 2008 11:28PM
Win. Pure and simple win.
jimmy @ Feb 26th 2008 11:37PM
I'm glad there are people dumb enough to buy this. now i just have to figure out how to get money out of them too...
teej @ Feb 27th 2008 11:11AM
people pay IRL moneys for stupid things in WoW, SecondLife, MMO's, etc. some people would pay for this to get 3000 achievement points from GH1/2/3. however, if it comes to spending $210 just to show your friend how amazing you are at the game, you (have no life) can always glitch the Kick The Bucket award!
jmiday @ Feb 26th 2008 11:56PM
it's like a player piano but dumb
John @ Feb 26th 2008 11:55PM
If guitar hero is still cool (all I know is, I haven't seen anyone in my dorm play it for months), I guess you could just madly hit buttons and pretend to be playing stuff on expert to impress your friends, or at least impress them until they're no longer your friends.
phanbouy @ Feb 26th 2008 11:59PM
i heard Vanilla Ice totally uses this
David @ Feb 27th 2008 12:10AM
So who tells the REAL guitarists who can play stairway to heaven at a high school battle of the bands that we're not even trying?
Motoken @ Feb 27th 2008 12:17AM
... what doesn't everyone use this?
BatteryAcid @ Feb 27th 2008 12:21AM
It seems like it would be easier and cheaper to have sensors on the screen or on a copy or virtual copy of the screen decide when current is allowed through the buttons.
jimmy @ Feb 27th 2008 8:30AM
why the hell would you think that would be cheaper. thats nonsense
BatteryAcid @ Feb 27th 2008 12:44PM
Although i'm not an electrical engineer and didn't watch the entire video on the read link
I believe their may be a cheaper and simpler solution. It just seems like some sensors (I don't know exactly what type, maybe a prism and photoelectric sensor) taped on screen and connected to some transistors replacing the buttons would be easier.
eeeMan @ Feb 27th 2008 12:29AM
poo
eeeMan @ Feb 27th 2008 12:31AM
whoops
phanbouy @ Feb 27th 2008 12:40AM

Alec @ Feb 27th 2008 1:08AM
their just mad cuz they cant beat the real guitar hero me even if a automated guitar was playing online i,d still beat it by x8 its score
teej @ Feb 27th 2008 11:13AM
i think life beats you with a "dumb comment" stick.
paul34 @ Feb 27th 2008 1:26AM
omghax!
vileta2 @ Feb 27th 2008 1:28AM

KangMin @ Feb 27th 2008 1:50AM
SOON TO COME: hacks for Rock Band - Drum
so all YOU have to do is just sit there and watch you magically drum away!
peepeepants @ Feb 27th 2008 2:15AM
I'm selling a much cheaper option for Guitar Hero success, for $9.95. It's a DVD with all stages perfectly played, so you don't even need to own Guitar Hero!
Cuz really, if you have to actually *DO SOMETHING* when it comes to video games- such as play them or even buy them- that's just too much.
r3loaded @ Feb 27th 2008 2:47AM
Real guitar ftw. Seriously, if you want to actually play guitar and look cool, Guitar Hero is NOT the way to do it.
Wes @ Feb 27th 2008 9:23AM
I agree.... fake guitars.... losers.
And while we're at it, racing games are stupid, just drive a real car. And FPS's are stupid.... just join the Army. And RPG games are stupid, just become a real Elf.
And why play platformers when you can jump from the couch to the coffee table and hit your head on the lights?
Dustin @ Feb 27th 2008 3:46AM
Awesome, I can finally get past that Milli Vanilli track..
JC @ Feb 27th 2008 10:27AM
I've been trying to pass Blame It On The Rain on Expert Mode for months! Thanks SYSTM!
Rontalvos @ Feb 27th 2008 4:02AM
months ago I said there would come a day when guitar hero could play itself. today is that day.
vpr @ Feb 27th 2008 6:43AM
Well you still have to activate star power for it, at least in the systm video - star power was never activated automatically...
Ladderless @ Feb 27th 2008 8:20AM
...In Soviet Russia, Guitar Hero Play YOU!
JD @ Feb 27th 2008 9:18AM
I don't get it. They didn't actually describe how to do the hard part - which is determining which buttons should be pressed when and for how long (when programming the device).
There have been kits out there for over a decade that cost less than $40 which let you control at least 8 relays via serial or parallel ports. All you need is a simple VB app running on a computer, and you've saved hundreds.. but how do you determine EXACTLY which buttons to press when and for how long? That's the hard part (at least for me!)
teej @ Feb 27th 2008 11:16AM
not to mention, do you have to program the timings for each and every song? if so, it's just like buying chores.
Pravus @ Feb 27th 2008 11:09AM
Who the hell would want to program this into that thing.
Though Fire and Flames Expert Tablature.

I love that anytime there is a Guitar Hero post all the "real rockers" get their panties in a bunch over a silly game. HA!
