As far as I can tell the only difference with the new MK2 model is full iPhone compatibility. The original version I have included a note that says it works fine with the iPhone, except that it displays a message when you connect it that says the dock is not iPhone compatible, but you just hit OK and it works. (I can't say for sure, I just have an iPod).

- a better display
- a better docking design
