Corsair bringing 16GB Voyager GT flash drive to CeBIT

Don't worry, you're not losing it -- yet, anyway. Corsair has indeed already launched a 16GB (and 32GB, for that matter) Voyager flash drive, but its forthcoming Voyager GT promises access speeds "up to four times faster" than standard USB 2.0 drives. Furthermore, this one comes housed in a water and shock resistant all-rubber casing, and could be entirely more appealing if that keyring slot were expanded to open bottles. Nevertheless, Corsair's hoping that you'll find enough to love to drop $169.99 after it debuts at CeBIT in just a few days.

NO Manufacturer should put out a new USB Device of any type, size with a SEPARATE lid that will promptly get lost.

All these devices whould have attached or sliding lids. Period.

And it time we start demanding such little touches from them. This "commonality" thing is needed on more and more devices.

Such as using a common charge system on Cell phones and data cables etc.

No format wars any more.

I disagree. I have had a cheap 2 gb Kingston (DTI) for almost a year now, and I never lost the cap. And even though I have the option to attach the cap at the end of the drive, I never do it...

So it is not a issue for me.

I agree w/ this as well. However, Corsair is super quick about replying & replacing lost caps. Yes, it's a hassle & I think Kingston's design is the best, but responsiveness on the maker's part is nice too. It's certainly created loyalty for me: Just bought 4gbs of ram from them because I got a cap so quickly.

I just bought a bunch of 16gb sdhc cards for about $80 each, there's no reason a USB drive should be more than $100 at 16gb size...

Ive had the corsair 8gb GT for almost a year now. Its gone through the washer/dryer twice and I still carry it to work every day. My friends at work have thumb drives but are blown away when they have to copy a large file to theirs and it takes 15 minutes and then I plug mine into their computer and copy it in about a minute.. oh and it also has enough room to store everything I need work related plus pictures and video.. Its really amazing although the cap thing is the one critical flaw. still a great buy though

the point isnt just the storage capacity. it is also weather resistant, but even that isnt the point. the point is that it is much faster than normal usb drives. the rest just adds more reasons to buy

Right. I have a Transcend 8GB flash drive that's the slowest USB drive I've ever used. I'd rather have a good 8GB flash drive from someone like Corsair, Sandisk, etc, than a 32GB drive from Transcend. It'd take like 24 hours to fill it up...

I have to also agree, i like caps, i dont like the Retracable flashes... I have sent like 3 cruisers back, i only use them to copy file from and too.. CRAP! Caps are a GO!!!

I had a 512MB voyager years ago, had to throw it away.
The rubber kept separating from the drive, and eventually
it quit working. I hope they've "toughened" them up by now.

They really should redesign this drive. The rubber doesn't protect the drive very well. I've sent 3 back for RMA already, all because the USB connector disconnected from the PCB from bending.

This last one I asked them to give me a Survivor and never been more happy.

I got a Survivor instead of a Survivor GT. It didn't come in my size (4GB).

I would suppose access times would be the same. Essentially I think the USB hardware is the same, except that the Survivor is mounted in aluminium instead of rubber.

Where do you go to get a replacement cap?? I lost thge cap on mine about 2 weeks after getting my 4Gb Voyager GT.. I knew it would happen, but the only speedy alternative was a Cruzer Titanium for half as much again..
I've bent the USB plug once on my drive...I was rather disappointed having previously owned a Cruzer Ti and never once bending the plug in 2 years of ownership..

the colors bring to mind a ferrari.
the data speed brings to mind a ferrari.
the amount of storage compared to other drives brings to mind the amount of gas a ferrari sucks up compared to another car.
and the price compared to said other cheapo drives.
all in all, i'd probably bite, it's a great product for the money right now, but in 2 years when flash is either half its current price or replaced by a cheaper type of solid state memory, the price will be an embarrassment.

I've got an 8GB Corsair one in a similar rubber form. It won't fit in some machines with recessed USB ports though - too thick. Means I end up having to carry a (thin) Sandisk Cruzer too. The Sandisk has never not fitted in any PC.

That's interesting. I just RMAed a voyager GT and was told that they had been discontinued and there was nothing available w/ the comparable speed. I was offered a refund or double capacity on a slower flash. Perhaps I should have waited to do the RMA.

The USB breakage issue was fixed on the new Corsair GT drives. They extended the PC board to fill in the gap from the back of the connector to the board that caused the issue.

These 16gb GT drives use a different type of memory & are slower than the 8gb GT drives. Unfortunatley I bought one before I discovered this.
